Howdy!
(Im brand new here so tell me if im doind something wrong)
NG is pretty awesome and I like how I get the top portal things without having to go to the site but having to logonto my email to check defeats the purpose of sending them!

So Im attempting to make a Newgrounds Notifier for mac! Everytime a new top 5 is made a slider pops out of the top left of the screen easily showing the top entries

tell me what you think (img linked) If enough want it I will ask a NG admin for some server side help

Newgrounds Notifier for mac?

the grass might be greener on the other side - but you still have to mow it

I look at those.

Anyway, I'm not really interested in getting something like this but I sure know many people on Newgrounds are.
So you should keep it up!

You might also get more exposure in the General forum.

Not gonna happen. Newgrounds has a bunch of RSS feeds, and that's it. You're not going to get liljim or anyone else for that matter to code something server-side for your program.

Trust me, I've tried :)

That RSS is all that is needed. Just write an app to parse it and bam.

XML/RSS is the way to go. Making it pop out of nowhere is kind of annoying, though. I suggest making it into a dashboard widget. Dashboard widgets aren't too hard to make, and you could easily make it call the NG RSS feed.

C++? Are you crazy?

Dashcode has all you need built in. It has pre fabricated templates for syndication, plus Dashboard widgets are actually constructed from HTML and CSS (with a little Javascript). Dashboard would be the perfect place for such a service.

simple & minimal, that's my style.

I'll be honest. I don't see what's so great about AIR. It seems to me like they are just trying to make AS3 into the next Java (as in write once run everywhere, not bloated and unpleasant).

AIR isn't just AS3, it's web technologies as well - more like a cross platform more developed mac widget
