There's still plenty to parody in the franchise. A lot of people who have previously done MGS parodies are participating in this. The problem with this collaboration is that everybody sucks.

Blamformers was so good because the Transformers movie was coming out and there was a lot of childhood memories that sort of... came out. Also, not everyone has played the games.

This collaboration is releasing in anticipation for the conclusion to a major 20-year-old franchise. The only difference between it and Transformers is that the robots are better and it was consistently good through the 90s.

And also, to be fair, most people who participated in Blamformers weren't even old enough to watch it. You don't have to play the games to make fun of them.

I'll try to help out by submitting a piece, I'm just drawing a blank for an idea at the moment.

I really do love this place and I'd hate to see it suffer like this. I was originally thinking about passing on the collab because I had so many projects to do already. (Maybe some of the other artists have the same predicament?) But if you say that it's for the good of the community, its almost my duty to step up. I'll give this a shot. So far I've been able to make some of my best stuff while under a small time constraint, lets see if that holds true this time.

I would say a few are, but for the most part, I doubt it. I just hope that some assholes finally get off their asses and decided to throw out a good 15-second skit.

A survey would be a good idea, yes...the only reason we were solid on Metal Gear was because:

A - Every game has been an incredibly popular best seller, and it seemed pretty popular here on NG. We actually thought it was a unique idea, and a nice change of pace from your standard, expected game-related submissions.

2 - We really thought the community would be down due to the virtually unlimited parody material and wide array of unique characters that could be used by both fans AND those unfamiliar with the game. I mean popularity aside, I personally don't care for the Metal Gear series, but I still had like 50 ideas and thought it might be fun to make something.

Tres - Metal Gear Solid 4 is coming out soon, and the collab would be released just before it. MGS4 is highly anticipated, and marks the end of the Metal Gear franchise. Thought they'd kinda go hand in hand since most people are amped for the game anyways.

Plus, most Metal Gear submissions that people make for NG are generally well accepted. I personally figured that people would feel more inclined to make a Metal Gear Flash if something was organized, as opposed to randomly making one, which people rarely think to do. You know, really sweep up and pull together something ultimate that no other site would have, and really give people a chance to cover all the shit that hasn't been done before. That's all pipe dreaming, though.

ANYWHO, I've been trying to work some sort of polling feature back into NG for a while now and nothing ever comes of it. I feel as if polls could really help us out when it comes to feedback on all sorts of shit, so we'll see.

...or we could just cut the bullshit and just do these in repeated order so everyone can be comfortable and happy:

But I gotta warn you...I won't be making a piece for the Zelda one, as I've never played a Zelda game before and don't even know where I'd start. And man you know, Street Fighter 4 is out soon, and I was really getting amped to make some shit for a mega-Street Fighter collab...but now I fear that it'll crash and burn harder than the World Trade Center. AWWW TOO LATE? Anyway, yeah...probably gonna scrap that one.

BUT ANYWAYS. To step back for a second - this didn't spark because nobody is submitting anything and MGS isn't popular...that's really not the case. We've gotten a hundred submissions or so by this point. The problem is an overall lack of thought and effort in the majority of them...and when I say 'thought' and 'effort', I'm not being Mr. Preachy Bigdicks who demands amazing things from the community, oh no, no, no. It's just really hard not to get pissed when you waste your your entire day downloading and publishing garbage...and just when you think shit can't get any worse, you get an entry that's, literally, a 1 frame drawing of a gear with a bandana on it. I SHIT YOU NOT.

I don't know how people can't come up with ideas. I wrote down 8 ideas and there are all based on MGS 2. The first one is overdone and I haven't played 3 yet so I'm going with 2.

It's going to be my first frame by frame animation, drawn with brush and everything, but don't worry. It's actually looking not bad. Maybe I'll post something soon.

Also if Stamper or Johnny wants, I can send my ideas to them, in a pm and they can tell me what they think of them. I'm sure they would like them.

hmm, I never though everyone would be that lazy, also I never realized people only resorted to the cardboard box joke thing. anyways my parts in. and yet i somehow think it wont be used.

While I would love to do a piece for it, my laptop has no sound on it right now, making lip synching near impossible. As a result, I am unable to make anything decent.

But I do have some good ideas, and I'm curious to see how they will act out.

So, here's the deal: PM me if you're interested in making something and put your subject as "Metal Gear Solid", whether you have no idea or if you've finished one and are thinking of making another, and I'll send you one of my ideas. I've currently got 3 scripts that I like, and one that's kind of sketchy. If you like it, then you can use it.

Like I said, I would animate them myself, but I can't record/synchronise events with sounds, and they would most likely turn out shit.

All I ask is that you give me a mention in your author comment when the final piece is done.

Of course, everyone must agree that even though MGS4 is coming out, highly wanted, yada, yada, yada, Brawl kind of stole MGS4's thunder. I mean, realistically, do more of your friends play Wii or PS3? Ok, now were more people talking about Brawl or MGS4 this past season? I don't know for you guys, but for me personally, the clear winner was Wii and Brawl and if this is the clear winner for others out there, then that explains the box joke submissions.

Also, I believe most people saw the massive success of the last collab, which of course was Blamformers and simply wanted a piece of the action. However, in Blamformers I believe there was a poor submission or two (either by accident, or comic effect), at least that's what I believe (again, I'm not sure about the rest of you). So ok, a poor animation was placed into this large success. This might have inspired the artists in this collab to attempt the low time, low effort, high result method portrayed before.

And I really do believe that a good poll could heavily influence the next collab (combined with the idea I stated before, it being during the summer so more artists would be avaliable due to the fact that most are in the teenage group). If you cannot ever figure out the survey coding for the website however (I've personally tried, didn't work out so great), then I personally recommend either just asking the public on the forums for topic ideas, then adding a new topic for the best couple and just post which one you like best, or just find a third-party website that will make it for you (many of these are free actually, or just have a trial period). I don't know, I'm just shouting out.

Lastly, I find it interesting that many people talk about creating more than one submission to the collab in these last few days, instead of improving their first. Odd isn't it, in a way? I mean, with this talk of lazy submissions coming in, and a more improved animation would have a higher chance of being included instead of two, quick submissions...

I thought my segment was actually pretty decent, but I never even got a response telling me if it sucked or not. I would really like to see this collaboration come through though, as the Metal Gear Series has always been one of my favorites, and I love a good collab.

On another note, if anyone needs voice actors, I'm pretty good. I can do a decent Snake, and a lot of my own voices that I use in my cartoons.

I'm still totally confused about something. If we send in a part, but it's deemed too crappy to get in, will we be notified? Or do we just have to wait. Cause I'm think I'm ready to send mine in, sans the original ending I had planned, but if it doesn't make the cut I'd want to add the last scene and see if I can make it suck less.

I think the real problem here might be that most submitters haven't played a Metal Gear game in their life. Really, that's the only explanation I can come up with.

I mean, even if they didn't play Metal Gear, they'd still know the codec conversations and cardboard box jokes, because those are usual staples in the franchise... which is why we have the guidelines (then and now) saying 'don't submit those.'

Me, I only got into the universe about a year ago... but I've absorbed so much about the Metal Gear franchise that I came up with jokes that I bet nobody here is going to expect, because each joke will deliver that 'wait, that actually happened in the game?' response.

To everyone here that might still think about submitting or will plan to for the next collab (if this doesn't go to hell by the deadline): PLAY THE GAME/WATCH THE MOVIE/ETC. THAT THE CURRENT/UPCOMING COLLAB IS COVERING. It will take you much further than any cock joke, generic gameplay element, or anything that everybody else could do.
