Starting A Business?

So me and a friend are thinking about starting a company so i was just wondering if anyone has ever worked inside a recording studio or anything? Or do you sell your productions etc?

I think i'm taking recording arts in the new school year so me and a friend just decided to start this up as soon as possible.

I'll be doing the audio/recording studio and he would be doing graphic type stuff (for artists etc.)

Is there an easy way to get our name out there?
If anyone has experience on this then please help...

It's all about networking and connections. A bit of a tricky pyramid.

However i'm sure if you get some good musicians under your belt and set up some good contacts it would be feasible.

Let me know what happens.

You're unlikely to get anywhere in the recording industry without having your own studio and equipment. You won't make any money off renting space and equipment as it's just too damn expensive.

Instead, try to work your way up the pyramid of making money in audio recording (in order of cost):

Busking > Hired performance > Travelling DJ > Sound for live events > Recording at live events > Studio Recording

I know that the equipment cost will be killer and with very low reputation i might not go anywheres... I'll just try and get to know some more people i guess and see where it takes me

ALSO some artists locally already know me (some hip-hop artists) and my uncle knows someone that has their own recording studio (he has won some big awards)
I'll ask my uncle to set something up with him if i can and see what happens.

I guess my main goal is to become a music producer and have my own studio in the end.

Eh, get a MySpace, just whore yourself to a bunch of bands. Offer free or next to nothing demo recordings, and eventually make your way up the pyramid.

Y'know getting a name in your local scene, buying better equipment. But don't expect to be the next Butch Vig.

I posted a topic kind of this like in a different forum and was told that the recording arts wasn't an easy path to go down. If you're really into recording, it's supposed to be a lot of fun and useful for your future. Just keep in mind that you have to really be interested in it.

Otherwise sounds like a cool idea.
