think about it, there's a murderer chasing you, you've mananged to escape him for a minute, your hands are shaking horribly, and you try to dial 911, but you end up hitting 922 or 944, with 999, there's a much reduced chance of that, and if the police get your call, at least they'll know you've been murdered.

You can make 999 your speed dial on your sell phone for 911.

Why not just put a police button on newer phone models?

Makes sense, but what if it is accidentally pressed?

Well on most phones you have to press "talk" to continue with the conection, so that wouldn't matter.

'goo goo gaa gaa'
'please hang up the phone now wee have about 1,000 more people needing assistance'
'goo goo?'
'ok would someone get a swat team down there'

I think we should just be able to scream as loud as fucking possible into the phone, and that has some voice-activation software which'll automatically connect you to the folks at 911.

My previous comment was made to produce a mental image of someone yelling unecessarily loud into a phone receiver. :/ Oh well.

Little kids shouldn't own a brand new cell phone.

Who the fuck has speed dial on a payphone? If you spend enough time around a payphone to need speed dial, go home.

In Australia our emergency number is 000, so there is no chance of that happening here =D.
