Oh and to address the issue of this being simply greed, the guy stated that he stabbed him for being rude to him, not to try and get the game faster.
He fucking stabbed him for being rude while in line for GTA 4. Unless this guy has a history of violence I am going to say its more that coincidence.

In the UK, it was two hours before the game was released.
The thing is, the story from Croydon (i.e. my back yard) was hideously bad reporting, for the following reasons:
1.) The game had not been released yet, so could not be blamed for it. By that logic, blame queues.
2.) There was an altercation between one person in the queue and somebody who wasn't - the person in the queue was stabbed, then went home to get a knife and seek vengeance. It's as if this is another example of the gang-related knife crime we have here.
It's like trying to blame the game for the people who are mugged for copies - people were mugged when the iPhone came out, so is the iPhone evil? In 2005 there was a riot outside an Ikea that was opening at midnight, so does that make Ikea evi...wait, bad comparison. As for the guy with a broken jaw, he tried to cut the queue, so again this implies queues are evil and he had it coming, to be frank).
So, rather than report on youth crime, they slant a story to make the game evil. Does anyone remember when proper journalism existed?

@prot
Because if they didn't have the object of desire you wouldn't have shit. Some objects are more addicting than others, but it is still way more reliant on x.

The first video game, pong, was invented in the 50's or 60's or something... prior to that, the best thing they had were slot machines and maybe some archaic arcade type games like pin ball or something.
Pong was released 24 years after the first video game.

Revenge didn't exist until the Grand Theft Auto: London 1969 Expansion Pack.
True story.
It doesn't matter if they hadn't played GTA 4 yet, Im sure they haev played the other games in the series, and the fact they were inline for the game puts them into that GTA mentality.
No it doesn't.
When I'm in line to rent a soft-core porno at Blockbuster, I don't start humping the shit out of some random blond in line.
Look at the WoW expansion release, I highly doubt the people who were dressed up as taurens and shit in line dress like that everyday. They are imerssed in the game mentality just by being aroudn it.
I also highly doubt anyone tried to beat anyone to death with a hammer and then raise their body back to life just to loot their corps for gold..

Hmm, lets see, me and my friend used to play my brothers copy of GTA when we were in 4th and 5th grade, it was fun, and we never went on any killing sprees or anything, it's more a stress release game if your just playing without the story line or anything.
The reason though for not influencing us is probably because we just picked it up and started messing around on it, and we knew what we were doing in the game and what was wrong and right. It was a game and that was the simple truth, considering by that age you know what that stuff is even if you don't have a full understanding of the world, thats child's play when compared to shit that can really mess a kid up at that age.
Now hand it to a much younger kid and there will probably be some problems, with a teen it is just a way to blow off some steam and kill time. With an adult, probably the same thing.
Now as for any cases with people claiming the game had some sort of affect on them committing some crime, that's either total bull to lessen heir punishment, or they're completely insane or have some severe mental illness.
And Jack Thompson's trying to make the world in his image f what is appropriate and decent because he can't deal with the fact that people can try and bullshit the system or are crazy.

Your saying that people get so influenced by WoW that they think they are Taurens? Ithink they dress up cos its a social event as much as anything else and it allows people to have a laugh and get together. Like a costume party. As for the gta series, its based on existing gang conflicts.
San adreas is based on LA gang wars
Gta3 is based on the mafia
Gta4 is based on eastern europian criminals.
All of which already exist, the game just shows what is already happening in the world.

Honestly, if anyone reads about Jack Thompson in totality, there is no getting around that he is a complete psychopath. He is hardly even a legitimate lawyer; the more he fights Take-Two, the more the courts side with them it seems.

Violent games dont cause violence.
at least not all by itself
Violence (caused by): Videogames+enviorment+how he/she was raised+parents+friends+other media influence+mental status
The cause of violence is a number of other variables
Jack thomas is just a nut bag who i wouldnt believe anything thing he says, even if he were to tell me the time.
He will say its because of video games even if the person has barly played video games and has a mental condition and bad home life. He will ignor that because he isnt out to ban video games, he is out to make a name for himself. He really dont care that much about video games. he just wants to make himself known.
this is the same for all the other people that try to ban them, because it is seen as a big thing and they want to get their face on the tv or in the newspaper.
its a buch of bullshit that anyone who is dumb enough will believe

I personally do not think any game should be banned for simply being to violent..
Gamestores should be able to slap a R18 sticker on it & then its up to the parents to monitor there own kids.
The only things I think games should ever be banned for are the following
Child Pornography or Child Abuse
Promoting Animal Cruelty .
Rape or sexual abuse
Or Sick stuff like pissing or crapping on people on people
Murdering people so you can cook them up & eat them.
In otherwords the same stuff a game would be banned for if it were a movie.

I can understand the child porn as it's the only thing that is illegal to view even in the realms of fiction. But the rest of that stuff should be up to the developers. Why is it ok for the hannibal series of movies to have all that stuff while a game can't?
I was raised on video games and movies. I don't watch disney movies anymore. My movies have matured with me(I can even watch people having sex on film!!!). Why not my video games?
Our growing dependence on laws only shows how uncivilized we are.
