the company polocy of pizza hut is for the workers to have NO weapons on the job. But one man disobeyed this and took a gun anyways. he delivers a pizza to this guy (this is a true story it was on the news) and the guy pulls out a gun and robs the pizza boy, but the pizza boy takes his gun out and shoots the guy in self defence. The man gets suspended and is possibly guna be fired for this, but do you think he should be? discuss.
i already have an opinion, ill share it later so you dont get manipulated by my ideas before you post yours.
ya hear about the guy who put his condom on backwards? He went.

I doubt that's a good idea.
Next thing you know they'll allow postal workers to carry automatic weapons. And we all know how well postal workers and weapons mix...

Well if they allow weapons for that one guy and don't "process" him via policy, then they might as well allow any delivery guy to be armed. You can see how that might get a little out of control. People might not be comfortable ordering from Pizza Hut if they know every delivery person is possibly packing heat (and that the company allows it).
So yeah. I can see why they had to suspend the dude. I don't know the full story, but if I was getting robbed at gunpoint for the pizza and petty cash I had on hand I'd just give up the food and dough and be glad I didn't get shot and let the company insurance deal with losses.

Instead of working for Pizza Hut as a delivery boy you should probably finish college or something. Especially if you believe you're going to get shot while working.
In the mind of a Canadian though, I wouldn't mind not being able to bring a weapon for self-defense: I'd just give the guy what he wants... not like if it was actually my money.
Well, I wouldn't be dumb enough to bring my own money... I guess I'd lose some tip money though :(

Okay, think about it this way, say the robber goes in and the clerk pulls his gun but the robber is quicker to the one he has and starts firing, and endangers the life of everyone in the store and behind the counter.
Insurance will pay for the robbery if he isn't caught but they haven't quite figured how to give someone's life back.

He should still get punished, but he should appeal to the courts to force Pizza Hut to change their rules.

No. It was clearly self defence. Pizza Hut sucks for suspending him and possibly firing him.

The guy shouldn't have had the gun but he shouldn't get fired.

I believe it was completely right of him to be able to defend himself and shoot the guy. I also believe it is completely right for pizza hut to be able to suspend/fire him for it. He defended himself while being robbed but he also knowingly went against company policy (if you're issued a CC you should know damn well that you still can't carry a gun into a court or something, just like you should know if it is against policy to carry a weapon you are going to be punished for it.) The guy made his choice, I think it was the right one but he also went against company policy and they can make their choice to enforce that policy.

I love all you bbsers, and all of your skewed, childish opinions.
Not only is concealed carry illegal in many places, but the guy directly disobeyed company policy, which also has strict protocol for situations described in the OP. This moron deserves to get fired and kept from any position of responsibility.

He went against company policy, so he should get suspended/fired for going against the rules.
However, if there's a chance people can get killed by others, as shown here, they should be at least allowed to carry mace. Or some kind of non-lethal defense.

I have lost all respect for anything Pizza Hut related, they took 2 hours to deliever us a cold pizza and then refused to do anything about it. HOT AND ON TIME, MY ARSE.
So I don't care what happens to the lucky fucker.

If you don't like a risk a job has, then don't take it.
This wasn't self defense if he was just being robbed--
I was a bank teller, and I had been robbed 5 times... once in a violent take over and I had a shot gun on my face and I saw my friend with a shot gun behind her head on the floor.
But I wouldn't take a gun because having a gun would WORSEN the situation.
Most robberies, the person wants to steal and run away as fast as possible.
Adding a weapon just makes things worse.

While delivering pizza I do think it would be wise to carry a weapon with you, Pizza Hut is stupid for doing this kind of thing, you should be allowed to have a weapon on you in case of a robbery.
