Army covering up rape and murder?

So I couldn't find a topic already on this.

This report: http://www.commondreams.org/archive/2008 /04/28/8564/ is saying that the military is covering up the rape and murder of women in the army. This sort of shit really stirs me up so I'm sharing it with you guys.

Apparently, the army files it as 'non-combat related injuries' and 'suicide'.

Families are saying that it's not true. One father who was a doctor, and a US Veteran himself viewed the body of his daughter and thought something was wrong based on the exit wound.

One woman was gay, and well you can read the rest, it's long but the length of the scroll bar is deceiving because most of it is comments.

I don't find this surprising with hindsight bias. War riles up the animal instinct in men, and a type of man who would go into the army could be more prone to rape. In a testosterone driven area of men killing each other and fighting for their lives, is it really that surprising that women would be in danger?

Frankly it's sick that they would cover that up.

Cheering for the Iraqis is a bit overboard, since I'm sure that it's not only the American military that have committed terrible acts and covered them up.

Well, say 500 men are raped a year in the army, but the men serving with them, and 100 women are raped a year. Meaning, women going into the armed services are just as likely to be raped or murdered as men are. I would guess the armed services would want to cover up man on man rape as much as man on woman rape, if not more. I have no idea if this is the case, just something to wonder about.

Crimes against women would be generally more publicized than men just because we're (rightly) deemed weaker and perhaps more vulnerable.

I don't really know if men would be equally as likely to get raped as women from their own side. Rape of men (from movies and reports I've read) by other straight men seems like it is more for status, power and a showing of strength. Is that the motive behind the rape and murder of men?

Would the army also cover up this rape and murder like they apparently have covered the woman's? I agree that it's something to wonder about, you raised a good question to which I don't have an answer to.

Regardless, it still should not be marked as 'suicide', that's just cruel to the families of the deceased.
