Here's a question I'm curious on. Out of all the artists on the Audio Portal. Which one of you do live recordings either by themselves or mixing them with synths that you made.

Personally I sometimes do it rather it be with a Piano, or guitar. Everything else I use the Keyboard with EWQL for. What about you all?

Im 90% digital. But when I need guitar-samples, I dont use a synth - I play the actual guitar. Also, Im find it fun to sample my own percussion. Fir instance, if I need a clap that sounds natural - why not just record it yourself. Then you can make 10 claps in 5 seconds, and you have 10 claps each with their own dynamics.

Things like that. But no, Im mostly digital.

I use live instruments.

I know I'm an asshole. Reminding me is redundant.

I'm pretty much all software, too. Like most of us here. I used some single note samples of my acoustic guitar in this one song (then sent it through a hell of delay and reverb fx- the noise from my crappy mic actually mixed pretty well with the atmosphere). Other than that yeah, I never use real instruments in my tuneys

DO NOT -
UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES -
attempt to have a look at my news post. IT WILL LEAVE YOU SEVERELY DAMAGED IN AN AGONIZING PAIN

I use my guitar and bass to record. I can also play a keyboard if I ever feel the need to add some synths or piano to my tunes.

I recently found my Mbox, to of which will convert quarter inch cables to a usb output. I've been working on sampling an acoustic and distorting its sound for possible backgrounds or melodies.

I haven't released any songs, and even though I am in the process of re-re-editing my songs, I play a real guitar and drums..Black metal wouldn't be right being digital..

I always use a real guitar and bass, and most of the time I use real drums. But sometimes, if I'm feeling different, I'll use some synth drums to mix it up a bit.

I've played bass now for about five years almost, and i've recorded some material. I have this plug that fits one end into the microphone jack in my computer and the other into my guitar cord. Which also can plug into my piano:D the piano has programmed drum beats in that shit. I use audacity to record and edit. it's a cheap, easy method that helps get my stuff out there for people to be judgemental about. I got the plugs at radio shack.

I record live guitar, bass guitar, and sometimes record random sounds for instruments. Like tearing paper makes a good hi-hat.

I do mostly live stuff (piano, guitars, synth keyboard, ect.)

Sometimes I use software synths for the synthesizer sounds.

And I use a hardware drum machine, which is kinda in between, I guess.

I would love to do some more analog stuff but I simply cannot afford it at this point. I'll still record .WAVs with a computer mic (claps, taps, and obscure sounds) though. I'd love to be able to play my guitar.

well... if you check the metal section on NG you'll find a lot of shitty FL made metal (usually with "Slayer" or other guitar emulators)

You are wrong.

The only time I use anything besides a real instrument is doing drums.
Trying to record live drums is a biotch, but guitar and bass are fairly easy.
I HATE MIDI. It should die. Not because it doesn't have its uses, but because so many people on here use it as a way of getting around having to put work into learning how to play a real instrument.
But yeah, all real instruments here.

MIDI is just a cheaper way of doing things nowadays.

Sure learning an instrument takes practice and coordination, but as far as composition goes, its equally as difficult.

Not exactly.
When an 11-year-old kid who's been playing guitar for 3 weeks can open Guitar Pro and write a wickedly blazing solo using only the scale finder, there is no difficulty anymore.
