Well I'm not quite sure if all the negative comments said so far were said with all seriousness, most likely not, but I'll say this anyway:

I was always under the impression that the day of silence is meant to make people aware of how often those of a different sexual orientation get harassed and don't say anything about it. Those that end up that way sometimes kill themselves and so on.

So, that being said, The day of silence isn't really a 'protest' so to speak. More of an 'awareness' thing.

Day of Silence

my friend made fun of a silent day for gays. he was doing it to make fun of a person (not gay or lesb) that was doing it.

Hilarity ensued.

So, here's the deal. It was spanish class, 8th period. The kid was being silent and we were reviewing some verbs. Since he couldn't speak, the teacher made him act out the verb. He did the wrong verb twice and then when he finally did it, epicness occurred. The verb was "take out the trash." When he acted it out, he walked over to this girl he always makes fun of, pretended to pick her up, and then proceeded to throw out the imaginary person out.

Day of Silence

No offense or anything, but how do you bring attention to something by not talking about it? That's why I don't like the idea of silent protests (or whatever this is being called).

Pretend that I didn't know what day of silence was. When I go to school tomorrow, I'd probably ask them what it was, but they couldn't tell me. Instead, someone else would tell me, but the fact that they told me means they weren't taking the Day of Silence seriously and/or weren't supporting the cause. So either you draw little attention to the subject, or little support; a lose-lose.

That's one of the main reasons that I don't bother with it, because it simply doesn't make sense. You'd have a lot more success advertising it over the announcements or during classes, hell pass out some posters even. Anything would seem better than keeping quiet about it.
