I am just getting to grips with motion tweening and I am finding it difficult to make a realistic tween.
Basically I am trying to make my character jump. He is made up of 5 different objects: the body, two hands and two feet. (check out my animation Commandos of 200BC to see what style I am using).
I decided that I wanted to do a fight scene which starts with him jumping. Frame-by-frame would take far too long, so I decided to test my tweening skills. Firstly, I tried with him on the ground and at his destination, but it was very unrealistic and and the hands and feet aren't moving with the body: they only get into the correct position on the last frame. Then I tried with 2 waypoints, each at different stages of the jump. The objects didn't change position and the hands and feet still weren't working properly.
What can I do?

It's hard to make things look realistic when using tweens, so I'm just gonna go ahead and say, your best off with mixing both tweens and frame by frame.

"Easing" is also your friend to acceleration and deceleration.

However, you ARE best using both tweens and FbF, as mentioned above.

How can you say that a jump cycle would take way too long to FBF?! Quality flashes don't come from 5 minutes of work. As mentioned already, mix both tweens and FBF, depending on the situation.

each object needs to be on its own layer, and you can't use drawings - you must use groups, graphics, or movieclips.

Hmm...I never realised. So I need to put each different object I use on it own layer. Would this apply for the whole animation or just the tweening part?

Um...
No ones actually helped me with my problem: the fact that the tween is retaining the same first shape even thoughI have made six waypoints in between. Why is it not changing at each waypoint.

I don't now about you but I find FBF a lot easier than tweening when using characters.

OK so you have different layers and what you can tween is rotating and movingthats all you can do, you cant tween some guys leg bending unless you have the upper leg and lower leg on different layers.

So every moving part needs a new layer, all you can do with tweening is rotating and moving.
