I dont know I was debating it on another site and I decided to get the viewpoint on people who actually have moderate intelligence. I'm merely relaying the main point of what was said.

All religions need money to survive. So I guess the mormon church would get it.
I think he's asking if the mormon religion is well-established enough to not be considered a cult.
I totally agree.

If people wish to squander their money on things they don't necessarily need, then that's their business.

Your Bishop who drives a 1987 Plymouth minivan and works as a construction worker is secretly super rich and spends your tithing money on hookers and beer. Those officials that claim to not get paid, and who have separate jobs, really have double lives and are blowing your money.

The church of mormon was probably started more so that Joseph Smith and hid friends could live richly off other people. Sadly, Smith was a douchebag with a lot of enemies so he got killed and betrayed hence becoming a martyr to the morons he had convinced.
So yeah those people carried on the mantle without really care to make money.
So while both are pretty stupid, the church of mormon is a lot more like a religion than the church of Scientology.

Um it was sarcasm.
I'm Mormon, I'm not active but I know a lot of people, including my dad, who have high ranking positions in the church and they get precisely ZERO money from the church. They all have separate jobs, and some of them are poor as crap.

That would be nice. Except, you know, polygamy was done away with by the church over 100 years ago.
Anyway, this shows this thread was meant for trolling. Apparently you got in an argument with a Mormon, you got angry, so now you created this thread as an outlet for you to spew mindless insults about the religion as a way of you releasing your anger.
Correct?
Correct.

Dude, don't start saying you're beliefs are being attacked because you do the same thing with your patriotism. When someone mentions either (regardless of being positive, negative or nutral) you act like you're being prosicuted. Tisk tisk tisk.

I can say tons of nice things about it that are meaningless. Behold, my list:
-Hitler wasn't a mormon.
-The majority of people in jail isn't mormon
-Mormons aren't scientologists
-There are no mormon suicide bombers
-Mormons don't shoot up schools
But I still think the Amish are way cooler than you guys.

I rest my case.
You're bringing up random nonsense, rapid fire. What you're saying doesn't even have to do with the question in your original post. Apparently you've prepared a list of things to crack jokes about.
It's certain that you made this thread for the purpose of trolling. The question was just a ploy so you could make it appear like it wasn't.
At 4/23/08 10:31 PM, Brick-top wrote:At 4/23/08 10:18 PM, cellardoor6 wrote: Correct?If I was spewing mindless anger why have I put lol after everything?
Correct.
Saying lol or laughing doesn't detract from the fact that you're trolling Mormons. You're spewing ignorant bullshit, simply saying "lol" and trying to make it sound humorous doesn't mean you're not trolling.
Why have I asked for OPINIONS rather than asserting anything negative?
To create the illusion that you actually want opinions or intelligent discussion. When really all you want is a Mormon-bashing thread so you can vent your anger and push the buttons of certain individuals.
Dude, don't start saying you're beliefs are being attacked because you do the same thing with your patriotism.
Hmm, I didn't know this thread was about me. Or was that part of your plan too?
When someone mentions either (regardless of being positive, negative or nutral) you act like you're being prosicuted. Tisk tisk tisk.
Um, I don't feel persecuted ("prosicuted"?). I just think it's pathetic that you made this thread simply for the purpose of talking shit. Look at your posts. They're random, retarded jokes about Mormons that didn't even touch the supposed issue you wanted to talk about. It's a dead give away what you're trying to do.

I agree with Poxpower 100%, even with the Amish comment.
What's really cool about the Amish is that people who are Amish can leave when they are 18.

Nah, they can leave for one year and come back. That's why Amish are totally debaucherous for that one year and choose to come back if they prefer the simple way of life. Unless you're a girl getting raped by her brothers and father, then you're kicked out permanently for going to the police.

It's a missionary tactic. You send a repressed 18 year old male out into the world of sin and chat rooms and within a month he's knocked up some girl desperate enough to make it with an Amish dude. A woman who "accidentally" procreates with someone who has the mannerisms of the Amish isn't going to be able to support a baby on her own thus the good religious man must marry her and provide for her and the child the only way he knows how. Thus the Amish are able to increase their population without all of the extra toes involved in inbreeding.
All this is very accurately illustrated in the film The Wicker Man. Of course in real life donors of outside genetic materials don't whine and scream quite as much as Nicholas Cage and if they did they would be "dealt with" much quicker. Seriously though, that movie was awful.

But in Kingpin after making lots of money that Amish guy was allowed to return. Maybe it was conditional since he saved his community. But boy oh boy did he have a wacky zany adventure in which he partook of sins a plenty!

They can become amish too.
Plus, the Amish don't really benefit from new converts like some other religious organizations do. I don't think Amish use currency on an inter-amish basis. [I do beleive they sell items to make money which is used for certain things that they are forced to buy from the 'english' [outsiders]

Yeah but should they choose to not come back, then they leave everything and everyone behind and have to make it in america as an 18 year-old with a bad education, no one to count on and no money...
That's kind of a hurdle, and it's a hurdle that many religions have anyways. If you leave them, then your whole family and friends distance themselves from you, though in a much less severe way today than in the past.
But still, in middle-america and whatnot. You're just "that guy who doesn't go to church" and whatever crap you have to deal with.
Classic cult tactic btw :p
