Helloski,

I've been really interested in finding out how other people paint metal skin/figures digitally. Lately I've been practicing and getting better. I'd like to see some metallic figures from you guys. Below are some of the first stages I used when I began.

Programs that can mimic tradtional painting would be the best things to use, in my opinion. And if you are relatively new to digital painting, it would probably be best to keep everything in seperate layers (assuming you are using something like Photoshop), duplicate and hide+lock layers that you feel like you might ruin so that you can easily jump back if all goes to hell. Sometimes, if you are smudging a line along or whatever, you might rack up more actions than your history records.

Anyways, these were created in Macromedia Flash 8 (clean outline) and Photoshop 7.0 (everything else but sketch). Good luck! ^_^

Final figure. Photoshop 7.0

I used 'median' to round the shading and highlights on seperate layers, then flattened the image and adjusted the contrast and levels slightly.

Usually I would smudge everything 'manually', but decided to try something quicker. Smudging everything carefully can make it so much more realistic and can allow you to include more reflections and curves of light over the skin - giving it more depth and dimension.

Thank you. I'm really hoping people will post their pics too, but if not I'll probably just keep practicing and putting mine up. ^_^

Here is one I'm working on at the moment.

Yeah 2nd picture is very much so better. I found the first one to be good anatomy, but the end result was far from impressive. This new one tho, is very skillful. Good job.
