This guy I know watches alot of DeathNote.
He's basically a dumbass that isnt as smart as the computer he watches.
Recently he started watching DeathNote.
All of a sudden, he starts beating me in games that involve strategizing.
Chess, checkers, whatever...
He couldnt even beat my baby sis before.
Then he starts using alot of huge words.
I can understand what he's saying, but most of the time while he's talking Im just like
"How da hell does he know this stuff???"
His reaction time and reflexes have also gotten quicker.
-The guy beat me in sparring. Never happened.
I ask him how does he learn so much in just a few weeks.
He says he watches DeathNote.
Please help me out here, cause Im lost.
Does watching DeatnNote make you smarter?
I personally dont beleive it but every time he beats me in chess, or sparring,
I wonder a little bit more.

Death Note isn't very challenging to the mind. It wouldn't make sense.

Placebo effect, or something. He's influenced by how they're all 'intelligent', so he picks up on mannerisms and shit like that.
I wouldn't go as far as saying thats a good thing, but its better than being a Naruto addict.

Maybe seeing the mind of a genius made him understand that being smart is a good thing and he started to study or something like that ?

I would agree it makes you somewhat smarter, deathnote is a well drawn and animated show that is quite enjoyable but you have to pay attention to the concepts and even think about whats going on in the show to make full sense of it (omg, thinking while watching tv, what kind of a person would do that) so yeah if you like the show, pay attention to it, it can lead to some interesting ideas and concepts as well with strategies as you have already witnessed.

I think it does keep you thinking and your friend could just be continuing to think after hes done watching.

Actually L dies and then Kira becomes L, but then some other people come in, one called N and the other Mello. One looks like a girl and the other as a cross-dresser.

Okay, death note uses a lot of tactics.
A shitload of tactics on how this guy avoids the other guy.
In this,it shows how he avoids being caught,
and also from the different perspective,on how to find him.
And its pretty damn clever if you ask me.
Though im pretty sure, death note never taught him.
I mean,fuck.
Do you really expect someone to hide cameras in back of you,
and start eating potato chips(yeah that part was funny...That potato chip.SILLY LIGHT SILLY.Though fucking smart.) and doing everything perfect as if you were Kira or L.
Really,Nothing would be so fucking accurate.
So,its probably something else.

I think it does. Watching any anime makes you smarter, because they are usually based off of books, and books are food, for the mind.

Try making a coherent paragrah first, before making a topic. Also, Death Note's fan base is generally in the range of the mentally retarded (the same people who like Naruto, and Bleach). So, no. Death Note did not make your friend smarter, you just got stupider.

Ah, perfectly logical. Watching japanese people run around and do action stuff makes perfect sense to why your friend is smarter.

Unless its Death Note. After watching the anime and reading the manga, I can conclude that my mind has been opened by a lot.
Of all the animes I've watched and mangas I've read, Death Note has to be the most intelligent of them all. If you ask me, it is arguably one of the best you'll ever see!
So yeah, Death Note does make you smarter. :-/

You bunghole u spoiled it XD ya...I really can't see anime making ppl smarter. My friend is a naruto addict and it made him try to run up a tree by closing his eyes and half focusing. It was entertaining when he fell though XD but ya I tink he just watched the show and it made him smart by the fact that he had to pay attention to understand it instead of just gawking at the tv
