yeah.. extremely.
What annoys me about Atheism is when people assert that their belief is any more correct than that of a religious person.
Atheist arguments mostly fall down to hypocrisy somewhere along the line, because all arguments they make can be applied to them.
Not saying that this is all Atheists, just the ones who try to push their Atheism on people (like that cunt Richard Dawkins).
And I'm not saying that Christian arguments are any more right, they can be just as hypocritical, and based on Faith. But at least most Christians are willing to accept that they rely on Faith.

I disagree. Religious topics help to identify who the absolute tools are around here.

That's the whole point of my topic. You're a smart man.

Hi there.
If I were to say there is a pink invisible unicorn behind me, you would want evidence. I would be idiotic if I said "What proof or evidence do you have that suggests there is no pink invisible unicorn behind me?" And that, sir, is EXACTLY what you are doing. Before you want us logical thinkers to accept your sky daddy, you must first provide scientific evidence to support your ridiculous claims. Until then, fuck off. :)
If the Unicorn is invisible, how is he pink? That makes no sense
;) You know what I'm talking 'bout *nudge nudge*
I don't care what your religion is. If you start saying I'm stupid and will go to hell or whatever that's when I fight back. But if somone says that here now today in NG right now, I won't respond because I'm too lazy to.

But scientific evidence isn't total undeniable proof.
i'm atheists, but I never go ," GOD ISN'T REAL!!!" I just keep it in my head.

How many atheists?
It's not that I am athiest.
I just can't be bothered to think about religion enough to make me talk about it out loud.
I don't know if there is a god, and there isn't any proof proving that there is or isn't a god.
So, I haven't a clue of what my religion would really be.
I know there is a word for it, but I don't remember what it is.
The only place I really see that is on the internet. I occasionally see that in real life, and when I do it's annoying.
hi

Agnostic - not knowing.

Um.... despite not believing in a higher being than my own mind, religion has contributed valuably to ethics, is in fact the cause for many of the progressive movements we see today, and diversifies cultures that, when met, may find something in common while learning about each others differences..... ??? Therefore religion should be respected even if not believed?
I sometimes need to slap my fellow non-believers in the face for being stupid. If they can't think properly and come to a non-arrogant conclusion about life, they don't deserve to be their own god.
I agree about the hypocrisy, but I'm still an atheist.
The average person has only one testicle.

Do all religions require preachers?
I live in a religious heavy community, but I was never raised to believe in religion. Neither my mother or my father believe in or nor do other family members.
When one of my friends (who is a Christian) asked me I I believed in God, and when I said no, he went on a bible thumping rampage. Telling me how I'll burn in hell for not believing in God and I told him "why would I want to worship a close minded god?" I tried to be a Christian for a few years but I just couldn't do it. I find it to be full of logical holes.
Thanks for the sig, carbonwater.
Eh, I dont go to church or anything, but I still belive that somewhere out there, they may be an afterlife. Hope and faith are the only things making us specs in the univers useful.
If religion means that you have faith in something, be it God or whatever, then Atheism is a religion. They have faith that there is no god. They have their "bibles" of old scholarly texts (that they refer to when their faith is challenged) and "preachers" who will defend their faith tooth-and-nail. They don't believe in a God described to them from ancient manuscripts, they believe in the absence of God described to them by Dawkins and others.
So yes, Atheism is a religion of its own.
I don't think atheist is a very solid term for those who do not believe in any religion. I respect religion though because it teaches people to be kind and care, I simply don't believe in it because I don't get how a holy (in my opinion magical) being can live alongside time and guide people to the afterlife.
So anyways, lets just call people who don't believe in any religion, not religious. I know, it's not catchy like atheism but it's accurate and people know what you're talking about the first time they hear it.

Faith is fading fast

Eh, some atheists are like that, but don't lump us all in with those numbnuts to satisfy your own weird stereotypes.
Personally, I'm fascinated by religion, and I respect each persons view towards the subject. Nobody knows completely the 100% truth, so it's fair game in my books.
But please, I respect your choice for believing in a good, please respect mine for not.

I think atheists have the right to be as open as Christians are to their faith. Seeing as the Christianity is being shoved down our throats a lot, I don't see why atheists can't be like that, too. All in all, religion pisses me off, and it's very unnecessary.

I prefer to be agnostic, not because it's the easy way out, but because both camps contain what can only be called douches. There will always be a small fraction of people (not even 0.0001%) who feel the need to force their views down people's throats.
99.9% of each camp will be normal people, accepting people's views on religion without comment. If you forced them to answer, they'd probably say they don't mind how you live your life, as long as it doesn't contain mass-murder or rape.
The last 0.0999% are the sort of person who replied agressively in this thread (most of you, anyway). They normally have no problem with religion in any shape or form, but as soon as a member of one group slurs the other, they'll stand up and defend themselves, often, and inadvertantly, slurring the other side or someone else entirely. What results is something like this thread.

True, it is almost expected of us to have a religion in this day and era, not as bad as pervious times, but still.
I don't see why atheists can't be like that, too.
A lot of the people I know respect atheism, it's somebodies choice for not believing in god. I think it's when it crosses the line when somebody forces their views down somebodies throat. Especially in a taboo subject like this, it would piss me of immensely if I was a devout Christian and had somebody try to convince me there was no god. I think this is where the guy is getting at.
All in all, religion pisses me off, and it's very unnecessary.
To a lot of people religion is a standing point between doing good and horrible things. So in a sense it is very important, though not to remind the fact that it can cause very bad in itself. It's if we could rationalise these choices to do more good than evil.

And then came life
No more there was a man

But then for some

Our brains exploded
The knowledge is commanding demanding that our thoughts be imminent outposts of infallible logic.

Because obviously every person you've met that hasn't said anything to you couldn't be an athiest.

As, well as all Muslims are terrorists. It may be false, but that doesn't stop people form forming anti-sentiment feeling toward them.
Thats a nice way of thinking, but i must point that many atheist are just atheist because they have been forced into it, so basically they would tell you how much they think your beliefs are rubbish, but they all have weak spots. Mainly I dont suggest putting miracles as evidence of God existance or anything, put in phylosofical arguments like " Religion is a way of life, so do you want me to live the same life than you do?" Or if they ask -whats the point on keeping faith in uncertain belief-, "well, Always look on the bright side of life, its just positive thinking focused on religious believes"
this are the kind of answers nd arguments you should have to be ready against hostile atheists, I must say aswell that I dont consider myself religious, but... I do believe the is a truth to find and whatever that is i will find it
