How can you only have .5 gigs. I wouldn't get Vista with just that much. I have 2 Gigs and it works good on this but you should stick with XP or 98.

It would probably "work" with 512mb of RAM, but whether you could use it for a practical purpose would be difficult to say. If you comp only has 512mb, try buying an upgrade from somewhere, Crucial Memory are good.

In other words, you need 1gb (preferably 1.5 or 2gb) or RAM to work. But I'd just stick with XP.

Buy a new computer that's certified Vista compatible. You'll fuck up your current one if you try to install it on 512MB

Well my computer is 512Mb and it came with vista but you should avoid vista and get Xp for sure. Vista is like an upgrade downgrade (newer but worse).

Why do you think that running slow as shit doesn't mean it's fucked up?

My laptop has 512MB RAM and Vista runs fine on it.

Well, technically it has 503MB, as the video chip steals some.

Okay, you are a fucking noob. You don't have to get a Vista when you get a new comp. You can order XP+SP2. Either way, Vista is almost identical to XP except it actually uses your RAM instead of letting it sit idle, but it frees up that RAM when you actually need it. There's also SuperFetch, which is extremely useful. Before you join the XP>Vista and Mac bandwagon, how about you STFU and do some research? There's also special GFX in video games that can't be reproduced on XP/DX9 like object motion blur, even if you have DX10/10.1 hardware.

Anyway, to answer the OP, I'm sure Vista will run, but it won't run well. I would suggest AT LEAST 1GB of RAM, but 2GB RAM is recommended. Otherwise, you won't be able to have many background tasks running or be able to take advantage of Vista's indexing system.

I have a 2GB Laptop, and the usage of the memeory is 36%(that's only explorer.exe). Do the maths. 100% = 2GB 50% = 1GB sooo 36% = 700-800MB. Won't work.

You could run it on 512MB.

You'd HAVE to use the classic skin, with zero visual effects and never try to run more than one program at a time.
Forget games.

For vista to run optimally you should have 2GB.
