Hmmm...yeah, I think this is what I was scratching at earlier, it really takes away that factor of having to work for the icon you want if you can just have it when you like, or recycle an older icon you liked over one you didn't. I think I'll side with Mod-Dobio on this one.

So avie couldn't get a lvl 25 icon. in fact only like 15 people could have the lvl 25 icon, so and overload of lvl 25 icons is extremely unlikely.

Well, the image that appear when you are at a level is a weapon. So you hurt the flashes with that weapon. If you change the weapon that you have to an old weapon, your vote power should be lower

How about being able to upload a level icon using the icon template? Or submitting an icon for approval by the Fulps or something and...... I donno....

Uploading something of your own would tax the site, since it would have to remember and load everyone's individual icon, I've heard rumors of more levels coming but...I dunno.

Oh, and yes, we did read pox...but I think what Dobio and I are scratching at is people might lose their incentive to level up doing this, because you could get to a level with an icon you don't like, and just replace it with an icon you previously had that you did like, and some people might just say "fuck it" to the whole depositing thing after...I dunno...I'll sit through a cruddy icon every now and again, I don't like this one, but it's just further incentive for me to keep depositing until I level up.

I was just using that as an example, I realized what you said.

If your idea was put into effect, level 14 icons would no longer be seen, and no one would deposit.

It would be pointless to have a level 30 with a level 18 avatar...it would totally defeat the purpose of being level 30.

Well if everyone hates it, who the fuck cares if its never seen again?? And if its not that hated, then it is likely someone will keep it. And this would also create the opportunity for someone to be the only lvl 14 on ng, which would be cool.

As for depositing... I still think you didn't read. That or you didn't make the assumption ( as I have) that the above level icons are way cooler than the lower level ones. But sure, if you want to keep the fuckin' pipe all your life, I don't see why you would need to deposit right now anyways.
I just don't get your point man, there is no reason why this would make someone not deposit who would deposit under the current system BECAUSE I REPEAT YOU WOULD HAVE TO EARN THE DAMNED LEVEL

ex: Bigbadron only like the lvl 1 and lvl 15 icon. He knows it will take a while before he gets to lvl 15 and he'll have to bear the sucky level in between. With this system in place, he could deposit all the time till he earns lvl 15, and go from the lvl 1 to the lvl 15 pic directly if he wants to.

And who the fuck cares anyways? Its not like the guy who is lvl 30 has the duty to keep the weapon pic or anything, and why would he change it to something else since lvl 30 is cool anyways?

Man, when I reach lvl 29, I'll keep it, its just that right now I'm only lvl 19, and since its nothing really special, I'd like to keep my glove till I get lvl 20 or higher.

No, since he wouldn't have earned it anymore. His choicecs would be between the ones he has the exp to get, so if he stops dedpositing, it would drop to the last attainable level. I don't know how to program that stuff, but I'm sure it can be done somehow.

Read this thread a few days ago, but didn't get around to responding for one reason or another.

Anyway, I think you've got a great idea here, Poxy. But I'm not sure there's enough people who think so to push it through into execution, and I don't know how liljim or the Fulps feel about it.

I know one thing, though: 9/10 people would probably rather see VP rank, so it surely isn't going to be a primary issue for most NGers anytime soon.

But yes... when I pass from level 16 to level 17, I am going to have a hard time giving up that wonderful level 16 icon in all its nunchaku-y glory.

Just as I'm going to have a hard time having to have level 14's shitty rusty pipe sitting next to all my posts for 10 weeks or however long it's going to take to get to the safety of level 15.

But I do agree, as well, with some of the people who suggest it will cause confusion (little tiny level number = mostly ignored by most people, except on level 30 glitch days, perhaps).

Still, seeing as how we can all change our level icon in that we can make it whichever of the three aura colours we want, it wouldn't be that far fetched to be able to make it any level (that we've earned) we want as well.

I certainly would not mind, overall, and would make use of it during level 14 to have the level 12 glove or something, and during level 17-whoknowswhen to have the level 16 nunchaku.

Oh, and I must address one thing I saw pop up several times, that I feel is totally wrong:

Some have said that if people could sit at the level icon they like forever, once they can enable that icon, they'll just sit at that exp, and not deposit (unless they're going to go down a level and lose that icon, I suppose).

What?!

#1) For one thing, people can ALREADY do that, and some obviously do. They get to their favorite level and sit there for the icon. What poxpower is suggesting would FREE those people from having to stay at the same (well, relatively the same) exp to keep that icon, and allow them to climb as high as they want via exp without having to sacrifice their icon. And hey, if they ever get tired of their fave icon, they can switch back to their current or to another.

#2) Additionally, there are many, like myself, who liked a couple icons they already got to (10 and 12 for me), and might use those now, yes, but our favorite icon is still ahead (like 16 for me)... and yet, even when we get to that fave icon, and while we might not like the icons that follow it very much (I don't particularly love 17, 18, or 19)... we're very well not going to stop depositing once we get there, because we have OTHER fave icons waiting even higher. I want the level 24 sword, the level 21 axe, and all those gorgeous level 25+ golden icons, too, not just level 16's nunchaku.

So... my motivation will still be there.

#3) And all of this is ignoring the very simple fact that the main reason to deposit exp is simply to get more exp... to head ever closer to the #1 spot, or at least towards getting onto the official top 50 exp list, which is like 100x more difficult than getting onto the top 50 b/p list for instance... and carries a lot of prestige therefore.

And if ALL OF THAT wasn't enough... there's a fourth reason:

#4) Voting Power.

So come on. Stop saying that pox's idea is bad because it unmotivates exp depositers. I think it does ANYTHING but that.

yah. I went through all of that myself. I even considered not going up to level 14, just so I could be olskoo and be level 13. or I could be gfoxcook even. but then I'd have to destroy the colourful sig. I've had this debate with myself many times in my mind over whether to impersonate thisisasignin. of course, i'd have to become THlSlSASlGNlN. if I was gonna impersonate you I'd be gf0xc00k or something I guess.
ha yeah it'd be funny to do the olskoo one though cos everyone'd love me for about 30 seconds before they all realised I'm a fake and then I'd probably become the most hated on of all of NG behind ki1o, not that he's really hated much anymore but I am talking of all time here.

i guess its a cool idea, but i always liked earning the levels. that way i have something to look forward to. i dont really like any of my previous level icons any better than the one i have now, so itd be pretty worthless for me.

also, how can you like level 18 better than 19? the spiked dildo is a gazillion times cooler than that ugly silver gauntlet.
