Well I was wondering today, you always see how, well in television shows, the criminal will murder someone and then leave the weapon behind. Now I don't understand why they would do this, because wouldn't keeping the weapon actually be a better thing to do? Because you always see, for example CSI, the scientists taking the murder weapon back to the forensic lab and finding some super awesome trail of DNA or something.

Now I ask you, if you do know, why not just hold onto the murder weapon? Whether it be a gun, blunt object, or any old thing at all.

I would think that when you kill someone not everything going through your head is making sense at the time, and bringing the weapon back with them wouldn't be the first thing on the top of their mind. For other circumstances I would have no clue.

Its to encourage real criminals to copy the criminals on TV so that real criminals would get caught.

That's true. Sorry for taking so long to respond, I was trying to figure out the quoting system and how it worked lol. But I guess it could be that they're just in a rush or not thinking clearly, but it just seems so unrealistic that in almost every CSI, or any other crime solving show, the weapon is always left behind. I understand it's TV but they could at least make it a little more real.

Don't even bother with them. Murderers are messed up from birth and they're so messed up, some of them just wanna be caught or will just 'end the pain'. Don't bother.

yeah, its also called stupidity

Hell no, I'm just saying that in shows like CSI, or crime solving shows that are supposed to be realistic they should make them seem realistic. I remember watching an episode where an investigator picks up some kind of crumbs off the petal of a car and ends up solving the whole case and just thinking to myself that it was all bullshit. I just think that if they're going to make these shows that they should at least make them realistic, because I'll probably never know what it's actually like to be out on the field investigating murders.

Only serial killers are truly psychotic. Most murders are situational and not done by habit or for pleasure.

CSI is bullshit, leaving the weapon stashed in a hidden place that you can get access to later is a smart idea if you stash it good enough. Think about it, if you were to stab someone to death chances are you would be acting strange, good cops can pick up on this and might search you. If you have no weapon on you than you can walk away, there's also been many recorded fuck ups that led to an arrest

Well the only reason they leave the murder weapon behind in movies and shows is so that they have a lead and they can try to make CSI look better than it is

Only reason I can think of: If you are guaranteed to be a suspect after the murder, you wouldn't want to be caught with the murder weapon. Better off letting them try to prove you used the weapon. Also, after killing someone, you might feel a bit distracted and neglect some important things- such as the disposal of or keeping track of the weapon.
