all valid points, but here is why I am committed to doing what I am doing.

1. This site does not compete with the portal. it feeds off it. It is by no means a place where anybody can submit anything, but hand selected, manually uploaded and set up songs of some of the highest quality tracks findable in the portal. In time it will house a LOT of really high grade songs and music that can be surfed and searched for.

2. It is true a podcast gives a quick dose of whatever music you mix into it, however I am not aiming for quick doses alone. This is why I would love podcast producers to join the effort so that these quick shots of music are also available, my end goal again is a smaller, more refined Audio Portal.

It's important to stress i'm we're COMPETING with the portal. Thats just stupid, the portal is way too big, way too refined, with way too many features. We are simply standing beside it, pulling the great music out before it gets buried.

Also, just to mention, whichever route you take (hand picked, or anyone can submit), it's not going to be perfect. If anyone can submit, then you'll have same problem as the Audio portal, getting spammed with mediocore music. If you have it picked by hand, then you may be missing out on something good, and the music may turn a little biased to your preferances. I do think that the hand picked thing is okay, but i'm trying to go with my idea of letting my listeners pick what is put in the site.

Why not just let anyone submit it, but before it becomes final, every song has to be approved? Kind of like when someone submits a song to the AP for the first time, except in this case it'd be every time they submitted a song. This might be easier than surfing through the AP endlessly (although you'd probably do some of that anyways).

The thing the AP doesn't offer that this is is a constant live stream of music (amirite?). I can just sit back and listen to the music instead of having to go to a different page every time I want to hear a different song. See, the NGAP Radio does this (NOT the Audio Portal), HOWEVER, the NGAP Radio plays a lot of crap. A lot. This will not. Once this gets bigger it'll be really sweet.

And I think Maestro has said that he would like for other people's podcasts to be in this. Or do you mean how would he do it? In that case wouldn't he just DL the podcast and put it into it? o.o

Well, i was just thinking about bumping his site, if he would bump my podcast. He doesn't have to download it to put it on there, just either

#1 link to my blogger page for direct download (that thing ONLY has the episodes and info, nothing else)

#2 Mention that you can find me in the Itunes market if you search "newgrounds"

#3 Also, to be fair, I'm in the Zune marketplace as well now, i believe

Quite right. I am thinking of making separate Albums for the podcast groups. Each album will store Podcasts released by date so users can listen to all, or most recent releases of the PodCast genre, allowing multiple podcasts be streamed through at one convinient click.

Also podcasts of course get an email sent out with every release, so yes Gorilla, I think we should work something out. It would make for an interesting combination.

Actually, if you don't mind, i could handle all of the podcast priorities...

I've got a good system of alternating between a mix episode, and a theme episode. I've also been pretty good about staying ahead of schedule, as i have episode 5 basically ready to go, and i'm only in the 3rd week (3rd public podcast). Had a couple of PM's, people enjoy the show, and while i don't think i should be the only DJ, i should manage the podcast because mine's already on a roll (small roll, but a roll nonetheless, damn it!)

I've had a friend who might be interested in DJ'ing, and i've had another person ask about DJ'ing as well. I also have 2 people right now being music scouts for the show.

I've got a very small amount of subscribers (only 9 now), but i hope to get a little more attention.

Also, i've mentioned this thread and the site in my 5th podcast, so listen in the begining for it.

Damn newgrounds for me not being able to edit posts. I always forget something 5 mintues after i post. Also, i wanted to remind people that it wouldn't be out of my range to play things that are featured on the http://www.symphonyofspecters.com/ site, so send me some music if you feel so inclined...

By news broadcasting I didn't mean I take control from the podcast in any way, but merely inform the users who have signed up for my mailing list as a means of providing more exposure.

i'll also be making a "Sign up" thread here in the NG audio forum so people bastards can sign up here and i'll get them into the database as well.

Well, hell... it sounds like i'll have a ton of songs to pick from, then. One of the hardest things i have to do is get the songs ready for show, and this would help...

I actually recorded the 5th episode today, and i mentioned the symphony of specters. It won't be out for a while, though, as i'm trying to stick to one podcast a week.

No. SymphonyofSpecters now has an audio portal type thing, which is only the music hand picked by the admins.

I think it's damn awesome, and it's actually got me striving to compose something worthy of Maestro's acceptance. I hope it's bringing this push for higher standards on other people too.

Regarding the radio, it is still under discussion. It IS possible, we HAVE found a way to make it happen. It is merely now taking the right steps to make it happen effectively. We will be sure to let people know when that is up!

Also SAM is a great and powerful tool, it was simply not in our budget to get it though. We are actually planning on using that when we get our heads in the right place. When the radio is up and going, we'll definitely be giving you a shout!

What spects of radio are you talking about, cause with certain broadcasting terms you NEED licenses. Especially if things are going internationally around. Not so much with the music, considering it's all under the creative commons, but broadcasting as a radio with shows and stuff can get you in trouble if you don't do it correctly.
On another note, is asking if your music can be put up (so long as it's consdered good enough for the cut) allowed or frowned upon?

I don't know if Maestro Rage will allow it on the Database, but i take any song on the radio, as long as it's longer than 30 seconds, and doesn't hurt my ears to listen to it.There have been some songs that are so damn high pitched that it almost blew my ears out.

Other than that, feel free to send me a link, and i can try to fit you in...

Once I get finished with one of my other client's site revamping I'll get to work on programming the radio/podcast hybrid engine. (Sorry for the delay of you all expecting it within a week, people have dibs on my programming services list XD.)

But anyway I can fill you in on all the details...

-Any player that supports opening mp3's via URL are supported
-Radio shows are undetermined, though I'm known for bridging hard gaps.
-Playlist is updated hourly, though they are not user controlled

Maestro is mostly in charge in filtering the songs for the list, but these are my requirements for submissions:

-Songs must be at least 1 minute long, loop songs may only loop 3 times to fulfill that requirement.
-Any crackling or dB bleeding in the songs will be rejected, though I do show mercy for most songs who have that problem.

Cheesy name, yet progressively getting coded.
So far it works with WMP, WinAMP, yet unfortunately it doesn't work with Media Player Alternative (K-Lite Codec Pack)

Though it seems to be calling to an M3U playlist file, it's actually calling to a PHP file that returns links to the songs where ever they may be. Until I get the REAL mp3 emulation working this cheesy and crude mock up will have to do.

In the end it'll just be 1 link that can be opened via browser to open with your favorite player and refreshes itself after the song. (Though some players will have a caching problem and not refresh.)

my fifth episode MIGHT be a little late. I'm having trouble, and i'm going to try to freaking start my computer over. It MIGHT be a while before i fix this, but when i do, i'll try to post my episodes up..

Happy to annouce that my 5th one is now posted up. It may not show up in Itunes, but it does download (funny how it works that way...)

Um, what happened? Did everyone die out on this or something? It's a pretty good idea, but if it did die, i can't help but feeling like saying "I told you so" It usually takes about 2 months for people to get burned out on an idea.
