I'm fucking sick of 0 voters...

That's right! I made on original thread about 0 voters! The fact is, though this will probably get locked, I have to complain about these guys.

I submitted a song this morning (http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/
134133 if you want to hear it) It was doing pretty well (a few votes, 4.42 score) then someone decides to 0 vote it, that drops it to 3.58. I'm pretty annoyed. Then someone 0 votes it again, dropping it to 2.89. I managed to get it up to 3.88, and then it was 0 voted again dropping it to 3.28. The fact is, from the reviews and comments I've had over msn, there is no reason to vote it 0, apparently it's a pretty good piece of audio. The problem is that not enough people visit the audio portal to balance out the 0 voters. This is where the original part of this post comes in.

The audio portal has no lure for the regular members of NG. Flash artists, trolls and audio artists are the only people to ever visit it. The rest of the NG population never clicks the button labelled AUDIO PORTAL. This is because they have nothing to gain from it. You get experience on your account for voting on flash, but not on audio. This means that perfectly decent audio (I'm not specifically talking about my own) is unlikely to get as much notice as a mediocre piece. I say that the Audio Portal needs experience or some other lure to let the majority of the NG community have a reason to go and vote, thus balancing out the 0 voters. What do you say?

What I always think when I vote on an audio & see that it doesn't give you any experience is that the NG admins etc. think that audio is less important than flash. I mean, sure, this site was based on flash, but audio was made with the same passion as flash.

I just hope they fix the AP soon.

Well thats exactly the problem, Newgrounds.com IS a flash website, but the audio portal seemed to just grow out of it and is still growing so it will improve sooner or later.

But when you get an upwards of 100+ votes it can get kind of hectic... And for some songs that have 1000+ its like... Thats sorta useless... And if it were to alert us, that would be major spam. Think about getting top 5 and getting 200 pms in a couple days on who votes.

surely the point of a voting system is to let people have their opinions on your song-
if they think your songs are useless, then thats their opinion, and therefore they should vote a 0?

i liked your song and 5ed it, but if i thought it was completely without merit and accomplishment,
would i be so wrong to give a big 0?

You wouldn't think it would weed out some of the 0 voters? They obviously don't want to be known, and having records of who voted on your songs, I would think it'd just stop them entirely, and they would resort to voting 3s or something like that.

And you could just start it now. No need to look at all the votes from the past, just start recording who votes from now to the future.

The song I just submitted has 2 votes, the first vote was a 5 and then the 2nd vote was a 0. And it went allll the way down to 1.14 or something. Someone with a VERY high level is 0'ing songs =O

Audio artists are the ones who 0 vote other people, im sure i discussed this a few months ago, but te audio portal is easily abused.

Why would they care? What's gonna happen to them? Nothing? Exactly. Even if the Lists were public, which they would never be, it probably wouldn't stop 0-bombing. Maybe lower it an insignificant amount, but that's all. Most people would just be like 'Wow that guy 0-Bombed you. Big whoop, get over it."

And I'm not too sure about letting experience happen for voting on Audio. I'm not too sure how it would play out. Only way to find out is to have it happen, I guess. It'd be nice if the Admins put that in though.

Here is something utterly simple that I think everyone can agree with:

The option to vote "zero" is totally unecessary and because it is so low, its power to skew a song's score is incredibly strong. No song here deserves a zero. Even the shittiest deserve a 1. Let's just entirely cut out the option of voting zero completely.

While this is by no means a solution, since zero-bombers will become one-bombers, it will result in a less intense skewing of the ratings of new songs.

Another option might be to force listeners to write a review in order to rate a song - you'd get a LOT less ratings, but they'd all be quality and real - and if they weren't, you'd be able to see which users are dropping zeros on you. It all just depends on whether or not more people would put in the effort to review, even if just meant writing one line.

But then you have the problem of no song going under 1.00

Some people might not find that a problem, but their are songs on here that are just shit and have nothing to contribute to the AP. Pardon me if I'm being a little too harsh, but their are, like, 7 second loops of very abusive noises on the AP a lot more then people might expect.
