Learn how to draw real people before trying to draw anime.

Your fatty faced man has a very fat, blocky face.

Also, the eyes are about ten times too small.

May I suggest you take up manga first. Manga is a bit more of a complex field, but it doesn't involve coloring other than dark shade-ins.
What's the different? Mangas normally have better quality than their anime counterparts.
Your picture, is not bad for a first (it's actually quite good for a first), you need to have a foundation though, that may work better, the lack of ears can slide as it can be assumed that the hair is covering it. There are plenty of tutorials, but the last one I took about 3 years ago, was here. It's a bit advance but its worth every second you put into it.
Keep at it, you have potential.

He needs some ears
The eyes should be bigger
The neck is large
Face is too blocky
and add some shading

Thats it

i'd have to go with this one, every drawing style more or less has it's root in realism.
And even if you don't plan on drawing by all the rules, it's very convenient to know them.

thank you, at least some people here understand the importance of starting with realism.

No i wouldn't but thats because picasso drew in a different form of visual art, he does abstract, now if you wanted to consider manga influenced style abstract just so people don't say its unrealistic be my guest however if you want to be a "cartoonist" as they call them then you want to learn real anatomy first.

Picasso was a cubist, and he started realistically, like all other real artists before him
because u have to start realistically if u want to go anywhere as an artist. read this u might learn something.

also im not calling manga abstarct, im saying before u create any type of art u have to know something about realism.

You guys, stop shouting at the poor guy. It's his first manga drawing. What do you expect Michaelangelo? It's very good by the way, but needs improving. The ears are obviously hidden by the hair.

Michaelangelo?

Michelangelo didn't draw manga though, thank god.

The ears are obviously hidden by the hair.

Um no? In that case the ears would have to be placed on that backside of his head, which would be very... odd.

I doubt we are here to argue. He wants to get better, not be demoralized into the pavement. So here, I like to number stuff:
1: Ears need to be at least partially visible
2: try to bold your lines
3: watch an anime, check the different eye styles and sizing
4: try to have minute details, makes things better
It is good for a start, I'll throw in my old crappy ass drawing too for the hell of it.
and yes assholes, be free to make fun of mine.

Look thanks for the advice and all but you could've gone a little bit easier on me. the reason i didn't include ears is because I was extremely tired, I did this about 1 in the morning, the eyes are alot bigger but because of the photo i took it was zoomed out, one of many bad points of the camera of my phone =/
And I did use moosh'd btw but I modified a few things to keep it simple. I tried using real people first but they always look really undistinctive or looks too scary *shudders*. So all in all I was quite pleased with myself about my drawing but if you guys don't like it then perhaps I should just quit.

P.S Pointy ears scare me really.

this is better, proportion wise, but not good
you should base your stuff in reality or it just won't look human
try drawing the outlines and stuff of a real person and changing them to anime
i don't know, but that's what i do when drawing cartoonily

these might help (if the downloads work)

I don't get what you mean when you say base it on something in reality. Please explain.

you're trying to make a face. what face has the eyes set that close together, or has angled slits for a nose? (basing on green-haired guy)

if you're trying to make something... making a 2d representation of something in 3d space... make it look somewhat real... once you know how something SHOULD look, then you can go about "breaking" those rules with "style" and "Flair".

fish-eye lenses poses that so often appear in action cartoons fall into this category. if you don't know how long an arm should be... you can't distort it correctly.
