McCain will be president? 2008-03-28 18:18:43 Reply

I'm just gonna say right off that I know next to nothing about politics. However, I do know about people acting like assholes.

So basically, it's a little bit more than half a year to election day, right? Republicans already got their man, McCain. However, what I hear is that Democrats have Obama and Clinton still going strong, and neither have a decent lead over the other. This is bad, I think.

See, the thing is, people get worked over little things and like to act in spite. With Democrats having 2 candidates, this logically means one of them has to go. However, both of them have a good number of supporters. What're are Clinton fanatics gonna do when Clinton happens to get kicked off? What's gonna happen of Obama and his "Change" plan goes to the toilets? Their supporters are gonna get pissed. Humans tend to act out of spite when they're pissed. I don't know this for sure, but I believe many supporters of the losing Democrat candidate are gonna vote for McCain, just 'cause their little Clinton or Obama didn't get through.

And all this time the Republicans are laughing and eating cake. Plus writing down any good insults Clinton and Obama are using on each other so the Republicans can use them against the winning candidate.

Of course, hopefully, many of the supporters who lose their favorite candidate will still think through this logically; this is the presidental election we're talking about. Hopefully.

I disagree. I think that regardless of whoever is the Democratic nominee, the democrats will rally around that person. I think there are simply too many people fed up with the current administration to cross over from the Democratic to the Republican ticket--Even if they have to clothespin vote for the Democratic candidate, they'll do so over going over to the Republican side.

That said, however, it seems unlikely that with the bickering and how hard fought this primary has been, that a Obama-Clinton or vice versa ticket will emerge, and frankly, I think that might be a good thing. While both candidates are Presidential material, I think that they would be better suited with perhaps another former candidate, perhaps Bill Richardson or John Edwards, taking the VP spot on the ticket.

Most, but not all, of the democratic votes are completely biased. People vote for Obama because he's black, and Hillary because she's a woman.

so are you saying that when one beats the other, everyone who didn't vote for the winner will vote for McCain because the next best option? obviously, not even close to most of the voters voted for their candidate because they are either black or a woman. most people probably voted based on their policies and views on major issues

The Democrats are just fucking each other up. Both Obama (who undoubtly will get the nomination) and Hillary are burning through money on attack ads, giving McCain a clear financial lead for the general election and a sweet collection of proven smear campaigns (like Obama's "inexperience") with which to use on Obama.

All Hillary is doing now is a scorched-earth campaign that is by the day lowering the Democrats chance to win in '08. As of now, Obama and McCain are roughly equal in the national polls, and given how Democrats are more likely to vote for McCain than Republicans are to vote Obama, '08 won't be the slaughter Democrats had been hoping for earlier.

Thanks Hillary you stupid bitch.

Sad thing is it's partially true. Obama wouldn't have as much support as he does if he was black, and Hilary wouldn't have as much support if she'd just admit she's really a man.

Slightly off topic, but has anyone else that Obama's campaign can be summed up in the words, "If you want change and hope vote for me?" I'm sorry but it shouldn't work as well as it does, he's pretty inexperienced. And before someone says he was a senator, senators do NOT govern, they're glorified voters that get paid too do it.

Last I checked Obama was 2 points ahead of McCain. You also do realize both Democratic canindates have raised nearly double the amount of funds McCain has. What are you talking about democrats would rather vote for McCain then Obama? If that was true then how has Obama won Most DEMOCRATIC primaries.

Ultimately, I think it's not going to matter very much in November that the two Democratic candidates right now are throwing stones at each other.

In fact, I'd say it's ultimately better for the Dems, because if Clinton uses up all the possible Republican ammunition against Obama before the General election gets into the swing of things, they're going to find themselves up against a candidate who's already battle-hardened, with no real silver bullet in the chamber to take him out, besides the arguments that all of us will have heard, by then, for the past two years.

The current administration is so unpopular right now, and all the factors that have been falling into place since the Iowa caucus and even since Hurricane Katrina, which show that with Bush's low approval rating, unprecedented Democratic turnout (versus tepid Republican turnout) at the primary elections, and the relative un-Conservativity that John McCain represents to those dyed-in-the-wool right wingers -- all of these will favor the Democrats, come November, regardless of the nominee.

I don't think it matters that right wingers won't vote for Obama; judging by Primary results, Obama has all the support he needs to easily carry the party to victory in November, whereas the Republicans of this primary cycle seemed weary and listless (on the whole, more of the same material that Bush has offered over the past eight years) to voters itching for change, and this is clearly evidenced in the Primary results, as well.

I still think they will go for McCain, even if hes not as extremist as Bush is. On the other hand, this non-extremism might help McCain, because it is clear that McCain is NOT Bush. All people are different, even if they belong to the same party.

McCain is definitely NOT another George Bush, and thus definitely does NOT have as close ties to Evangelical voters, or absolute control over the Bible Belt / Southeast, which was the key to victory for Republicans in both 2000 and 2004. I think many of this crucial demographic will not vote in this General election, because of McCain's left-leaning tendencies, which include briefly considering switching party allegiances in 2000.

Reagan =/= Bush =/= McCain

They are all different people. Just like Hillary and Obama are different from each other as well. The fact that the current administration isn't good doesn't mean that McCain will continue walking down the same spiral. Also, McCain has a life history that differs GREATLY from that of Bush. McCain is a war veteran and everything, he never evaded his duty with the USA.

I agree that McCain will receive more support from sectors such as the Independents that the Republican nominee wouldn't have received, had anyone else been at the helm of the party. The real question is, will this addition to the voting bloc be enough to cancel out the Evangelicals that will stay home as a protest for the lack of a conservative nominee?

See?

I do see, but I think McCain is fight an uphill battle, and will be unless a political paradigm shift occurs between now and November 7th.

Too much bad stuff is coming out about both candidates. Take just recently with the Clinton sniping incident and the Obama preacher fiasco. They're just giving McCain a bunch of ammunition for whichever candidate ends up becoming the nominee. The longer this goes on, the more stuff that's going to come out, and the worse it is for the Democratic candidate.

About McCain not winning Evangelicals. We cannot call that till he announces his running mate. For example a McCain Huckabee ticket would significantly strengthen the Republicans. Because Huckabee won Evangelicals by like 90%. But there is the question are there more democratic blacks in the south or more evangelical christians. The south ,unlike in past years, should be interesting to see what color it is in the end.

George Bush The First was a war hero of sorts, as well, running for reelection.

As I recall, the Democrats' strategy worked pretty well in '92.

And if you disagree with that statement, then yer just being an argumentative prick for the sake of it simply because thats how people act in the politics section. AT LEAST a third of Obamas supporters support him because hes black and we BOTH KNOW IT. Yea, an inexperienced senator with the middle name hussein whos father was a muslim and has admited cocaine use would go SO FAR if he was a white man. I do think McCain will win the presidency. Although there has been increasing dissent against the administration and the line of the republican party, most of this aggression was worked out in the big incumbency turn over in the house this last election. Then, even though the democrats knew that they could do little with their small majority in only one of the legislators they made big promises about changing the direction of the country and holding the white house accountable. As we know little got done in that way. Obviously everyone who was looking for salvation from the new democratic majority was disappointed and I dare say resentful.
McCain, who is by no means a moderate, at least appears to be more middle of the road than the religious right and much of the Bush senior era hawks. Both Obama and HIlary (Hilary less so.) seem to be more identified with the ineffectual liberals everyone elected earlier, so general resentment is projected onto them. So I think McCain with his apparent middle-of-the-roadness and no nonsense foreign-policy claims will win the hearts of most fearful Prozac pounding moderate and swing voters.

Or like 16 for the electoral college or 8 for the popular vote.

And Pantywipe you do realize the majority of Obama's base is young WHITE voters. Hillary's is actually older voters and latino's. Care to explain why these are their biggest bases if people are just voting because of outward appearance?

Also once again as of right now Obama is TWO points ahead of McCain in the polls.
