Formated my computer for nothing...

ok last night, my god came running into my room and knocked my computer over... it broke my 200 mm fan and it is 50 bucks to replace that... all else seemed fine, it booted up fine and every thing was peachy,
i start talking to a few of my friends on skype. and i get D/C..

i tried every thing, i reset my router, reset the cable, restareted my computer, set up new connections, made a network with my moms computer and tried to use it for internet, and i got noting, all other internet using devices in my house work just fine not my computer.

i went to trouble shoot my connection and it said problem updateing ip address. i called my isp like it said to do and after 20 minutes of typeing in ping this and that in command prompt he told me to format if i could and if i cant, clear my regisry. told me it was a new virus and i cant remember the name of it...

i backed up a few songs and formated, still didnt work..
i took every thing out of my case and put it back in and now it works... wtf? the guy at cogico told me there was no way other then getting rid of the virus to get internet and all i had to do was dust my motherboard?!

Well I can see why that would piss you off and all...

Protip: Tech service = worthless. They should be used as a last resort for ANY problem. I can't really feel sorry for you as you said yourself he had you format your computer and you solved the problem yourself AFTER you took his advice. Next time, do everything humanly possible to your computer, and if nothing works, THEN you call tech service and listen to their bullshit.

Good story, though. Reminded me of why I'll never stop using my Mac. (Flame all you want, but I enjoy not having to download 1200 service packages, updates, and patches every week, and avoiding situations like this altogether...)

i tried to activate xp and it said it was used to many times, i wet and it said i had to pay well over 200 bucks for a new key.. i called customer service and lied threw my teeth and they gave me a new activation number for free :D

You know the just round up all the Indian's without accents and put em in a room and call it tech support (oh the went to University) I swear you could call them for a simple procedure like how to get to the help screen and they'd tell you to something extreme when it's really easy and every idiot should know how to do it.

The tech support guys go through a list of common problems and solutions. He probably figured your hard drive was either bloated with programs or you had a virus. So based off that he suggested you to format your pc. That's my theory anyway.

Your network card was probably just loosened by the fall. I don't know why he didn't just suggest checking your NIC.

yea he SHOULD have known that... i told him what happned, and then it dawned on me to do that.... after dumb ass makes me format...

i could have sold my song for thousands of $'s.. i burnt it and it is corrupt. maby i should sue like every one else in the hemisphere dose :O lol,

Yeah, tech support is junk. Some Paki at Microsoft told me that my ISP didn't support Live because "they don't have enough internets." Lol.
