Want proof that the majority of newgrounds users only look at what is on the front page?
Yesterday, this passed judgement with a 3.5. Today it has a 4.5
Unless the front page is expanded or some shit, whatever seems trendy will get a large score bonus and premier distribution for a long time. Take this cartoon for example. Mild humor, mild animation, and in another fucking language. Score? 4.3.
It used to be that no animation got past a 4.2. I think it was Madness Consternation that broke that barrier. Slowly but steadily over the past year, I've seen the score of the top weekly flashes go up, now to the point that every week there are at least 5 animations past 4.0, and at least two of them are in the top 50. Sure the quality of animation has gone up over the years, but I wouldn't go as far as to say therefore people should mass 5 animations more often.
Artists who want to be noticed sellout their skills and animate catering to what the mass of users think is cool, in part even to their primal urges (hentai, madness, sprites). Newgrounds for many is not about having fun creating material and having it seen by the public, its now about cramming as many fart jokes, motion tweens, and video game references into a short flash as possible.
I don't think there is exactly a thing the older user-base can do, responsiility for their education relies on the new users themselves. They are the ones who have to learn about NG's past, rules, and taboos, something many decide to neglect. The only thing we can do to help is to give them a nudge in the right direction.
Taking this concept further, from what I have learned, this is what degraded 4chan to the idiocy it represents now. A mass inflow of new users and a slack of moderation lead to faggotry and anarchy. The place stands for repitition of old jokes and trolling.
Take this how you want. I'm not saying that newgrounds is doomed, nor that everything will work itself out. Something has to be done, and its up to you to decide what.
What do you expect to from us? I only vote in the top 5 but that is just because I am too lazy. I do check some of the games though.

Exactly. Now days flashes actually get 4.46 / 5.00 . I remember on my first account the number one flash was Raiden X or something with a 4.2. Seriously, people just mass fifen everything.
