Miyamoto: Excellent! surely with such a new and innovative console we should create some new and interesting IPs to bring out the full potential of our system.

Corporate Lackey #2: Actually sir I think we should just stick with the tried and true. Hey! we can start with a direct port from the Gamecube with some tacked on gimmick controls!

Corporate Lackey #1: Yeah! then we can release a new paper mario game, only we wont take advantage of the new motion controls at all, and just turn our new innovative controller sideways to simulate a classic NES controller, effectively making it a step backwards!

Corporate Lackey #3: Perfect! then we can release a new Mario game! only we wont take advantage of the controls at all in that either, I'm sure we can tack on some pointer function for gathering star bits or something later so we can claim that we did though!

Corporate Lackey #4: Then as the final step, we can release a new Smash Bros with some new characters and levels while contributing nothing new to the core gameplay! Then we can just make the new controls so ineffective that the players are forced to use the old Gamecube controllers!

Miyamoto: Brilliant! We can remarket the same tired shit we've been pushing for years under the guise of new controls, which will only function as minor tacked on gimmicks! We'll make millions!

360's got nothing to do with it. We're talking about why the Wii sucks in this thread, not how the Wii compares to other consoles.

You're going to have a fairly small fan base then, going by the number of people who have bought the console.
The only thing the Wii doesn't excel in, is that the graphical power is quite miniscule in comparison with the other two consoles, and the very poor online service that Nintendo provides. In terms of gameplay however the Wii is matching the Triple-A titles for the PS3 and 360. There's a reason that Super Mario Galaxy got Game of the Year in many publications (online and print) last year.

Haha, yeah I've been pretty disappointed with the Wii. The vast majority of games for it are complete crap, and even the "good" games are lacking, the only exception being Brawl, and then again, I'm with you about the fact that you have to use a Gamecube controller.

"Good" games for the Wii:

-Paper Mario- No replay value. Only worth renting.
-The new Metroid game I don't remember the name- Hey! Who wants to go back-tracking for batteries to open doors! Oh boy, hours of mindless meandering, so much fun!
-Mario Galaxy- Well designed... except the game offers almost no challenge whatsoever. Dull.

Still, Brawl alone is a reason to own a Wii.

Regardless, this just misses the entire point of the Wii. So many games take advantage of the Wiimote and sensor controls, such as Twilight Princess or No More Heroes whilst others allow players who don't approve of these new features to still play quality games, such as Super Paper Mario or Galaxy.

The Wii has extended to be more of a pick up and play system, just like the NES and SNES were way back when. It allows people unfamiliar with video games not to be overwhelmed with complicated controls and features that most of us assume everyone would know. Not everyone has played a first person shooter, which might be shocking to us but to them being thrown into one now which assumes the player knows what they're doing could be confusing and offputting.

The post wasn't well thought out and just seemed to be looking to start an argument.

I have to agree with WilliWowza. I know people that have no interest in holding a controller and button mashing, but they'll stop to swing a controller like a golf club, or go virtual bowling. I think using the GameCube controllers was an awesome idea, cause you don't have to hold the nunchunck if you're uncomfortable with it.

This thread is vastly immature and most likely on portrays someguy's dislike for it and his justification.
The Wii isn't perfect, yeah, everyone knows that. But neither is the 360 or the PS3.
The 360 breaks their own games and crashes if on for too long. Not to mention the swarming overuse of shooting games.
The PS3 fucked up upon release and got a late start because Sony jumped the gun, not to mention that its expensive as fuck.
The Wii has bad internet capabilities, graphical capabilities not to far from the previous generation and has a controller with an esoteric interest group.

But there are good things about each console as well. The 360 has great graphical quality and the ability to download arcade games as well as demos and older XBox games.
The PS3 has a Home system, completely compatible with the PSP, and holds great exclusive titles Like Metal Gear Solid 4 and Disgaea 3.
The Wii, is backwards compatible, even by controller, has free online gameplay (so stop bitching about it), has the biggest area for options for download, can tell weather, news, and other things and it has what is labeled the best fighting game by many sources as an exclusive title.

Stop complain about the systems and enjoy the one(s) you perfer.

Nintendo wants to appeal to the people who aren't sure about the new motion sensor control. Such games as Super Paper Mario are made merely for a classic feel. And Super Mario Galaxy feels like the same controls as playing Sunshine. Nintendo wants to balnce their games with a lot of motion sensor controling and many classical feel, or otherwise Gamecube like controls.

This way everybody's happy. And these certainly are shitty reasons to hate the wii. Stick with your Halo, which also has the same core gameplay.

While I do agree that the Wii suffers from some major problems, specifically the lack of decent 3rd party titles, rehash syndrome, and shovelware disease, I still see some hope for the machine in the future.

Besides, the 360 and the PS3 games aren't exactly pushing forward in the gameplay department either, atleast Nintendo is trying something new with the Wiimote technology, otherwise all the new consoles are just last gen with a boob job. :)

Either way, the games are still fun.
