I am reminded of Slash's post on why this is our (read: everyone's) fault. Personally, I don't see how this could really have been stopped, since all of the 30+ spam reviews that caused the stolen award were left in the space of half an hour, right before the new awards were chosen. Had there been more constructive yet low-scoring reviews, they would've simply made more spam reviews to drown them out of the overall score, so the logic doesn't really work here.

Oh well... free whistle points on the spam reviews anyway. ;)

As has been said before, there is nothing wrong with those types of submissions. They're not breaking the terms of use for the portal, and therefore aren't whistle-worthy. Unless they have things like racism, death threats, real porn, or other such things, they are OK. A lazily done, 2-second loop of a duck on a li-lo is not abusive at all (just crappy spam).

If you know it to have been submited more than once, make sure you give a link to the original (otherwise it looks like you're just reporting things for being spam). If the link checks out, then there's no problem with that.

If you're right, l'd like to do the same thing for this submission as what I did for that 'holocaust picture' flash a little while ago, but since my NGPD forum account still hasn't been approved, I'm going to have to ask someone else to do that.

I really think we should be able to whistle shit after it's passed to flag things like file swapping flashes and stolen content. It would probably get abused though, so maybe letting deity whistles be the only ones able to do that might work.

A simpler solution would be just to remove the ability for flash authors to edit their flashes. Simply telling the authors that any change, regardless of how minor, would mean the flash has to effectively go through judgement again would practically remove the ability of any file-swapper to abuse the portal like that.

You can't do that, because there are so many flashes and games that have bugs and fixes that need to be made that doing that would make it just really hard on them. Imagine a flash with a high vote that has about 1000 votes or more or is on the front page. The guy discovers it has bugs and wants to fix it, he loses all the votes, his score and the frontpage. It's this way already for a good reason.

Hey guys, good to see all the whistle-worthy flashes being caught, good work. Now there's one thing I wanted to let you guys in on: we all know that there's little we can do about spam as such other than voting fairly, reviewing constructively and hoping for the best, and it's frustrating to see those efforts to be in vain as they manage to steal awards on a consistent basis.

Well this week they stole an award from the wrong person. The EGB's own Corky52 had a legit flash in with a fantastic chance of winning Underdog only to see it snatched by a mass alt-reviewing flash that I'm sure you're all aware of. Understandably he was very annoyed, and so he has created this newspost in which to report any ow-scoring submissions, so that surveillance can be carried out on them and any potential mass-reviewing attempts can be reported. I would encourage any of you who see a typical spam submission and are suspicious that an attempt at award-stealing may be made to report it to Corky, who will get in touch with a review mod should the need arise.

Also Tails, with the advent of the Art Portal, will we see some NGPD armory art being submitted, or are they too "classified"? ;P

It's great to see more action being taken against award stealing, simply taking a personal lookout for them and only sharing them in places like here, where pretty much everyone have already seen it, giving exposure to a newspost about it on a popular user's blog will draw a bit more attention to the problem Flashes. Duck Divisi0n is using a technique to get their flashes by B/Pers who don't watch the flash by labeling them as school projects and similar things. Don't be fooled, be sure to look at the author and view the flash.
