It's a very sloppily constructed RPG. The leveling system is broken and flawed, the pacing is sluggish and amateur, and the main plot is derivative of poor stories. That being said I really enjoyed this game. Once you get to disc 4, it's a very fun game with a lot to do. Unfortunately, the first three discs are completely linear. A problem a friend of mine had is the lack of customization. By "maxing out" your characters, you make them identical to everyone else's maxed out characters, since you can always learn everything, and nothing prevents a skill from being learned.
The characters have cool and emotional histories, but the Gongora plot is retarded and stereotypical. He's one of the worst villains in recent memory.
A giant note for anyone starting into this game: once you get to the ship to Grand Staff on disc 2, BUY SHIELDUS AND BARRICADUS! Once you begin the meat of disc 3, they will be indefinitely unavailable, and you'll have to start over if you want that achievement.
Also, the opening cut-scene's Kaim looks way different from the Kaim of the rest of the game. This bugged the shit out of me.
