Pads, synths? Good ones? 2008-03-15 22:37:15

I am new (wanting) to make music. I have Cubase LE 4 (Studio Software) and I want to know what is a good synth or pad the has many good sounds. Yes, I have looked in the resources but I don't really see anything. I am looking for something free or decent priced with goo d quality and compadibility.

Thanks!

I will tell you right now - besides buying a Waldorf blofield or Virus Access variety hardware va...you are going to have an extremely hard time finding the kinds of sounds you will get from reFX's Nexus. I know that it costs a hefty $300 but it is definitely worth it unless you want to spend ages trying to replicate the presets that you will immediately have in front of you with that softsynth. Other extraordinarily good software synths for the price are Vember Audio's Surge, Lennar Digital's Sylenth 1 and GForce's Minimonsta. Cakewalk's Z3ta+ is also good for a little bit lesser price.

Freeware-wise...there are a few I always recommend to people:

Synth 1, Oatmeal, Atlantis, Minimogue and Arppe2600, the 2-voice H.G. Fortune synths, and Crystal.

You can google any of those with the word "vsti" added to it if you have trouble finding them - it should do the trick.

He made a promotional song, or something of the sort.

Wow, there's alot to choose from! Thanks! I'm trying though to get Cubase LE 4 to work for it. (Very Close). Just a question, do you need a MIDI Imput Device to work for VST?

Hmm... Cubase should have a piano roll, so you can input notes directly, but a MIDI device helps a lot!

I do have a USB Lexicon Alpha ASIO Driver thing where I can connect my keyboard to (and my guitar). I just need to get a MIDI to a line in cord (like a guitar chord) - if there is such thing. I'll check if Cubase has a built in keyboard but I haven't seen anything yet.

The one VST plugin I downloaded has a built in keyboard. I think Cubase is looking for the input to come from the ASIO driver. I don't really know what I am doing.

Ok. It exists I just can't find it. Is it possible to use the keyboard on the VST Plugin and record it?

I don't really know what VST's are. I am very knew to this.
