((if there is another thread on this topic im sorry, i couldnt find it.))
right now, the debate of eliminating a penny is very strong. It is believed that it should be eliminated as there is almost nothing now that you can buy with a penny.
( BTW for people in Europe or Canada, a penny is 1/100 of a dollar, which is used very frequent in our country.)
what are your views on sacking the penny?

lol

I hate all coins equally in US currency. The only coins I even tend to keep are quarters, but even then I think it's a nuisance. I hate carrying around coins altogether.

umm in canada we call it a penny or a cent either/or we have them too lol,
anyways i belive we should keep them for the sole fact that a lot of the times when im buying something the price dosent come up with a nice even number with tax and all, i mean something may cost $1.06 cents how am i suppose to pay for that without pennys?

If they were to remove pennys then they would round everything to the nearest nickle.
For instance, $1.06 would be rounded to $1.05. Another example would be $1.99, it would just round out to $2.00.

Sack the penny! Aint no meaning to it anyway. In addition, money is lost every time a new batch of pennies is made.

That's another point they are using, nobody even wants them anymore. People just leave them by cash registers, drop them on the sidewalk, keep thousands in jars with no actual intent on cashing them in. nobody wants them anymore. they are now about as useful as used coffee grounds.

Why don't they just change the penny from meaning 1 cent to meaning 1 dollar. Gives it a unique role, and they can advertise it so people don't get swindled.

Absolutely not.
Pennies is the eastiest means as to swim in money, since you only need 100$ to get 10000 of the wonderful penny
[protip: I've never seen a penny in my life, but having such a low and useless coin sounds awesome]

a jar full of pennies adds up. when you realize that you have more pennies in DOLLARS than DOLLARS you actually have yourself, you'll realize how important they are (and especially for change).

Yeah but with tax the penny can be useful, and if you only have change left to buy things...

Cause then people with big jars / tins of collected change suddenly become uber rich?

So long as sales tax is 7% it won't be practical. Plus, I feel like I'd be given less money over time in change and at work. No thanks. :/

You know, I'm kind of anal about these things...
I always like to pay with exact change. Most of the times, I use my debit card. The rest of the times, like when I forget my wallet or when cards are not accepted, I precalculate the total value of my purchase with Taxes included. Then, I pay the exact amount. So, I need pennies, or at least a pennie bill.
Don't worry, I'm not the guy that holds up the fast lane. I actually bring a calculator to the supermarket and add up the total before I line up.
So yeah, I'm a nerd. :D
Sorry. No EDIT button. :(

They need a coin worth $10,000. We can call it the JMHX. It will be as big as a car wheel.

in the early days of the Euro, there were 1 & 2 cent coins, Finland banned them right away and in the rest of the 'euro' country their hardly used nowadays.
ban the penny, it's useless now, the dollar is dropping almost everyday.

Removing the penny wouldn't stop this. It would simply round off everything, making your task quicker. (and if you really push it, you could even earn money on it by buying things the exact "right way")

Not really because the rounding also works in your favor. If the price of something comes up to say $1.01 or .02 you pay: $1.00. At $1.03 or.04 you pay $1.05. It evens out and you would be surprised with how fast you forget about it.
I tried paying attention for about a week when I was in Korea (US military bases overseas do not use pennies because of the cost of transporting them there, but every other US currency is what you use on base) and it even out pretty well. Over a lifetime I'm sure the range of gain/loss would be no greater than $10 either way.

Well, it costs more to make than what it's actually worth, so, yeah. Fuck the penny. " Fuck it right in the ear!" <-----South Park Quote.

Might the rounding hurt the economy though, since things will cost, say $3.95 as opposed to $3.99 and businesses will lose a small amount of money.
