The Truth About Marijuana 2008-03-08 13:00:16 Reply

The laws governing marijuana today are largely due to three very powerful Americans who were afraid that they would lose tremendous amounts of money if hemp was allowed to reach its full commercial potential. To protect their bottom line, they engaged in an all out campaign to convince the country that marijuana (which no one have ever heard of) was on the brink of ruining their lives.

William Randolph Hearst, founder of the Hearst Newspaper Chain, owner of millions of acres of trees to be used for newspaper, and inventor of the word "marijuana" (He knew no one would make hemp illegal) instructed his editors, who were already versed in the field of yellow journalism, to write defaming stories about the "killer weed." Andrew Mellon, owner of Gulf Oil, Secretary of the Treasury, and the richest man in the world, was heavily invested in Lammont DuPoint's fledging petrochemical industry. They both stood to lose big time, Mellon his money, DuPoint his entire business, because anything can be produced from hemp that is currently made from petrochemicals. Mellon personally designed a job for his nephew-in-law, Harry Aslinger, to eradicate the growth of hemp through the Marijuana Tax Act. Together, these three respected Americans who were aware that cutting down trees, and the petrochemical industry were harmful to the environment, with Aslinger as their point man, spearheaded an immortal and illegal movement to wipe out the competition.

It has nothing to do with the dangers that smoking marijuana would have on people or society. That's utter bullshit. Bullshit bullshit BULLSHIT!!!!! It's all about money (as usual).

You should give us some links. Hell I'd even watch a documentary on that. Very interesting.

Hearst was the guy that Citizen Kane was made after, a bit.

He tried to prevent the movies release. So I have no doubt that he'd have a part in something like this.

The did a documentry on History Channel about a year ago. It was pretty fascinating, not only was the banning of marijuana a monetary issue, it was a racial issue as well, as most of the dealers were mexican-americans. Thus, people began to persecute the mexicans. Its pretty interesting.

While I've reached the point where I don't care if people smoke pot or not I do think it has some side effects.

Anyone I knew who did it ended up becoming lazy and unmotivated. Then they just became really stupid.

This sort of thing would make me be upset with dupont on principle, except I'm a chemical engineer and maybe I'll be working for them at some point in the near future.

Except they're called Invista now or some shit.

Marijuana was smoked in mexico(hence the name is SPANISH), and use of it as a drug was brought to the usa by utah mormons who had gone down to try and convert the mexicans and consequently picked it up and thoroughly enjoyed smoking it. The shit hit the fan though when they came back. The recently created FDA was headed by a Mormon from Utah, and quickly banned the substance. This is the same guy that launched nationwide prohibition on evil alcohol. It was never about big business, and claiming that it was just makes people get all pissy and ignore what you have to say, because you're a "crazy conspiracy theorist."

Talking about industrial use only causes problems in the long run, you should focus on talking about why drugs should be legal for consumption. The problem i think is that most people seem to believe that a citizens role is to serve the country and doing drugs takes away from that because it makes people "lazy' or something. Oddly enough these same people feel it's their right to stare blankly at a tv for 6 hours every night and waste the life that they have at some shitty job with a wife they despise and children they ignore. But they'll be damned if you're going to smoke dope, you fiend!!!

well... they've done some stuff since then and found other issues as well, like how people aren't willing to concede to taking oral pills of the effective marijuana chemicals because they either don't get high or just have more fun smoking weed. kinda outputs that marijuana is just another alcohol, and i think one alcohol-implicated drug is enough.

As much as I detest conspiracy theories, I posted a topic on this quite a while back that consisted of a spoken word piece made by Jello Biafra entitled "Grow More Pot"which went on -- in great detail -- about Dupont and Hearst Paper Manufacturing's role in getting Marijuana Hemp outlawed in this country. The source of his information was a book called "The Emperor Wears No Clothes" by noted pro-hemp lobbyist Jack Herer.

Now while you may brush that off as a conspiracy theory (and I wouldn't blame you for doing so), I would suggest you watch the following; Hemp For Victory, a 1940's educational movie aimed at American farmers long after marijuana had been outlawed for personal use. If you take nothing else away from this exchange, you should at least consider how odd such a 180 degree turn in behavior producing such would be for our government actually is.

Your post is whats bullshit! Marijuana is illegal because its dangerous! Don't you understand that? It's like smoking a couple packs of cigarettes for every joint! People die from it all the time, and many more get cancer.

Cigarettes are filled with rat poison, acids, and many other oxidants and co2 emitters that increase the chances of cancer by about 30%+. Marijuana is a pure substance, and the THC has very few side-effects from EXTREMELY LONG exposure, including decreased semen, and somewhat slowed reaction time. People don't die from Weed, you stupid Nooblet. MORE people die from being struck from lightning than from Weed. Cancer? You're fucking stupid. Marijuana is used for people with Glaucoma, which can be considered as a cancer. Do some fucking research. Btw, Drug Free America is full of shit, much like your post. Now kindly STFU.

Ad hominem = FAIL.

Also, I fail to see how high eye pressure (glaucoma) is the same as mutated cells (cancer).

I've smoked it a couple times and i have never had any problems. I'm also very positive that it doesn't cause cancer. I'm also not saying that it should be legalized though, i'm just asking for the decriminalization of it. You know, TRY to regulate it like we do with alcohol.
Not like we do a very good job with that though, but that's another subject.
