Alternate I am Legend ending

I Am Legend was a great movie. I didn't think the original ending was bad at all, but that one was definately better. It would be perfect if the doggy was still alive though.

The alternate seems more fufilling but there are some loose ends around it. The regular ending does hold up better to the book.

thing is, without the dog dying, there is no emotional conflict for him or reason for him to give up. Remeber, through all this the dog was by his side, he had it since it was just a puppy, so it was more than a friend to him, like a daughter even. The whole point of it dying it taking away what little he had as a connection with humanity, make him feel like he trully was the last man on earth...they needed that little factor, specially if they were changing the ending like they did.

As for the endings...I agree I prefer it when movies based off of books stick to the true esscence (sp?) of the book, but they tried to make a more upliftinmg ending with the theatrical version, and I liked it. In fact, I like it both, which is why DVDs are great, they can simply put an option to watch the movie with either ending and have everyone happy. You gotta appreciate, loopholes or not, the true mening of both endings, one is more cinical in a sence, but they are both great, and Will Smith did an awesome job in this film and I dont care what anybody thinks, I liked this movie a lot.

Just when I think there is still hope for this movie this comes out. I am Legend sucked because there was too much standing around being emotional. No where near enough mutants dieing and the crap that god just told her there was a survivor colony was bs. When he wakes up saved by the chick was the worst part of the film where instead of saying who are you, where did you come from, how did you survive etc he sits down and has breakfast! The original ending was the only good point because him blowing up meant that there couldn't be a sequal. If anyone else recognises this for the pansy chick flick it is then watch the omega man, same plot but alot more mutants die.

he was disconected from reality at this point. He is dissoriented and confused. It all might have been a bad dream for all he knew, he does not realize what is going on until after. That is also why they have him see his wife and daughter for a brief second when he wakes up...shows exactly that he is already losing it and is disconectede, emotionally and phisically from reality

Then why doesn't he ask if she's real I mean he could have figured out something in the time it took to eat breakfast whine pointlessly about bacon and quote an entire scene of shrek. That's another thing if I wanted to watch shrek I would watch shrek not I am legend.

The original ending was much cooler. It firmly established the zombies as baddies, and Will Smith as the goodie. This ending gives back the humanity which was apparently all but lost to the disease. If they can control themselves, why don't they do so all the time, and work together to find a cure and/or eat. The disease turning them into creatures controlled only by primal instincts was cooler and made more sense. The old ending also had self sacrifice, which while being cliché, is always cool to see.

They aren't zombies they're mutants. Zombies can't spin a car by tackling it, take down a powerpole, leap to a second story window, can walk in the day light and aren't CGI.
