Great news: I'm going to work on my part right now. I'm going to write down some stuff first to see what I can come up with. After that I'll see how I can fit all that in 45 seconds or so, and then I'll storyboard it.

I think the whole thing will be done in about 4 days to a week or so, depending on how much other stuff comes a long.

Why don't you remove the lines first? I think that'll help enough.

oh, okay, go for it! we wont use it if you dont want us too, sorry for the misconception :)

gatling, to make it look more cardboardy, make all the straight lines less straight. because when you're cutting cardboard, its never straight. evar. or do what vincoid said, hes pretty smart.

Thanks, but what I usually notice is that when you have outlines on an object, especially when done with the line tool, they tend to look totally different when you remove the lines.
So it doesn't really matter wether the lines are straight or not (for instance the screenshot from my movie below), it's the color of the lines that have a major influence. Just like a character with black outlines is totally different from one with lines slightly darker than it's fill colors.

Okay, before you look at the pic, let me explain.

Another thing you could do to amplify you cardboard creation is to a drop shadows to certain objects, amplifying the 3d effect you would actually get with cardboard.

If anyone doesn't know how to achieve this effect, just post here. Though I'm sure most of you already can figure it out.

Yeah, I have, it's a great style. AlmightyHans has been using it too lately.

That's a great tip btw Jake, I didn't think of that yet.

One of the things I've done because of a lack of textures (or being too lazy to find more) is to put a dark grey box with 20-50% alpha over the texture. You can see it used on the lower piece and side of the alarm clock in my previous post.

I'm putting it on hold for a while for a very good reason: I just got Richard Williams' book "The Animator's Survival Kit". I'm going to practice that first so this collab piece will be even better ;)

I'm droipping out. I don't feel that my idea is good enough for this collab nor do I have enough skill. I'm soory but I will be here in this thread for the regular egostroking and support.

Don't worry about it, most collabs get front page. I can't see why Tom wouldn't put this on up since it's so original.

lets not be hasty..
If we all work hard to create some solid animation so that nick/me can put it all in order (which we'll work hard on too ;) ) then even if it doesnt get frontpaged, we'll have an amazing, impressive collab that we'll all love to pieces and be happy with.

what Im trying to say is that when you move from heartfelt effort to "lets get front paged!" at this point in a project, it'll just not going turn out as well. so just have fun with your parts and try to make them as good as they can be. I hope that makes sense and doesnt make anyone sad, I love frontpage as much as you all do, but I really do want this to turn out well. :)

Oh man, I totally agree on this (which you probably already knew from the Face Collab). The reason why I join this is because it makes me have to accommodate to a certain topic, as well as it allows me to learn more and more about animation. Frontpage, favorites, awards and good scores are all of secondary importance to me. It's all about growth in skill and having fun in the process of it.
