I'm no Christian, but one of my good friends is and the other day he was talking about how the end of the world is coming. We started talking about it more today.
"the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fire, and the earth and the works upon it will be burned up!"
In between the next 4 years, god will show himself to everyone. It will be just like a normal day, you could be at your friends house, making dinner, playing games, just an average day.
For me this is hard to grasp and take in, I love life and I am only 19 but thinking about it, gets me feeling like shit. Our minds can't comprehend what is going to happen, but we'll all be given a chance to goto heaven.
Anyone here a Christian? I am really feelin like shit right now, part of me wants to believe God is real, but the other half of me doesn't want the world to end right now. Super Smash Bros Brawl hasn't even been released in Australia yet :(
What's your serious input on this guys? I know I know every year someone goes "OMG THE WORLD IS ENDING THIS YEAR" but I just have a gut feeling about this.

i saw a thing on the history channel a while ago about the mayan calender. they said the world would end on dec 21. 2012 cant remember everything about it but it convinced me XD

The Book of Revelation, the Christian text on Armageddon, is so vague and symbolic, that it can be applied to almost any situation. They used it to claim that the end of the world would occur during World War 1, then again during World War 2. Everything from the French Revolution to 9-11 has been used to verify the end times.
If I were you, I'd tell my Christian friend to actually do some research into the background of the Book of Revelation, and to see it in its original context - it's a text decrying the Roman persecution of the early Jewish followers of Jesus, and a hope that the Roman Empire will gets its comeuppance, not a prophetic work that should be taken literally.

also a very good point, I don't quite remember but I'm pretty sure the number 666 is talked about in there also, whihc if you look into it, it talked about nero as bearing the mark of the beast. so it's pretty safe to safe whats talked about in revelations, already happened

It's not on the news because people don't believe in such things until it happens.
I think that all this "end of the world" shit shouldn't be cared for and probably isn't going to happen. If it does, it won't happen for a long time.
I'm not too worried about THE END COMING! If it does come then w/e not like we can do anything about. I doubt it will happen within our time anyway, and I doubt the end will come in 2012. If it does, I better have sex before it.
I just want to create a free and harmonious world for everyone who wants to join, where you can be free and do anything, where we are released from physical and mental limitations once and for all. something similar happened to me, after watching the davinci code movie, me and a friend were talking about the catholic church taking out and adding in certain parts of the bible in their own personal interests. so we don't really know what is true in the bible and what is not, I was freaked out for a bit. but I realized that, if they really did change something important in the bible, I don't think god is going to punish me for the wrong doings of a corrupt politician a thousand years ago

i think the mayan calender is like a normal store bought calender. we get a calender thats says for 2 years while the mayan has a caled ending on 2012 so basicaly thats the time where the mayan would make another calender like us when our calender runs out we buy anothere. jeez all this ending worl is crap all i know is idiots better not cause global warming or any normal shit like that
