That'd be cool too.
Ok, $10,000 to any Audio Portal folks who win an Oscar and mention NG on stage. :)

would it count to violently enter the stage, take control of the mic and scream "NEEEEWWWWGROOOOOOUUUNDSSSSS" innit? Or would one have to actually win the Oscar? :(

That'd be awesome. I think The Swain or Adam Phillips both have a really good chance, though.

generally all you need to do is offically submit your movie or "film" to the academy for a possibly nomination. I believe there's probably a fee to avoid everything under the sun from being sent in. if you've seen the nominations over the years you'll know most are HARDLY popular...generally the only place ive seen many of em is at animation film festivals like the one in ottawa canada. you cant really blame the films for not being seen...until very recently there was no avenue for em to even be viewed by the general public. i hope they actually stick many of em up on itunes and i'd purchase them.

i think the craziest one ove ever seen be nominated was REJECTED. while its good (and i own it on dvd), you'll see its VERY POSSIBLE for somebody to have a chance here. you just need to think outside the box a little and do something unconventional.

I'd wager that if a flash movie ever won an oscar, it would be because of great storytelling.

Jesus, $10,000?! Well i suppose newgrounds would be mentioned during the ceremony, thus increasing it's traffic so it would be worth it in the end.

There should be a betting system, any guesses who could possibly happen do it?

also, if this hasn't already been mentioned,
this film was made mostly in flash by a single person.

It was screened at cinemas in LA and a few other places.

You can watch most of it on youtube.

Wow, Toms feeling extra generous! As if you guys didn´t give away enough cash prizes and free goodies. To be honest i don´t know how you guys can afford to do all this, but i must say, i think it´s amazing that people can get back something from their favourite website by using their talent and practicing their hobby at the same time.

Anyway, i would love to see a flash nominated for an Oscar one day, and i´d like to see somone win that 10k too.

I think this is a brilliant idea. It's certainly possible, though I am not sure how likely. Anyways I'm interested to see how things will have evolved on this front in ten months or so.

I don't get why everyone points their finger at Adam Phillips.

Sure, his animation is nice and neat, but I think an Oscar would require a tad firmer plotline.
And how much would you hope to earn on the publicity from a Newgrounder winning an Oscar, Tom?

Anyways, rather interesting news.

Agreed. Adam Phillips puts alot of work, effort and story line's into each and every one of his animations. He surely will pretty soon get an oscar, or be nominated for one, really soon. As newgrounds is growing everyday, so Is it's wonderful world of flash. (THE FLASH PORTAL!!!)

Lmao, MGA2 getting a Oscar.

I think if any content from Newgrounds is going to win any sort of mainstream award, it will have to be for something utterly professional, original and clearly driven by an inspiring concept. I'd imagine that if you wanted something to get an Oscar nomination, you'd have to first whore it around to other film festivals and try to dominate on these smaller competitions. This of course would stick past success to the reputation of your work and yourself as an artist. Unless someone REALLY has that set as their final goal for the animation, I don't see that happening.

A lot of content on Newgrounds is awfully short lived, not that it should be. I'd love to see something like Waterlollies being submitted to Tropfest here in Australia, instead of badly animated cartoons ripping off "Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends" winning.

Always nice to dream though Tom! I'm sure you might have inspired someone out there with this.

It looks like it could have been, but I can't find confirmation. But it does give hope that someone here could pull it off. :)

I haven't seen it, but if it's like the trailer, I'd say that it's not because there radial blurs in its tweens.

Anyhoo, back on topic...

It's definitely possible. More and more TV shows are switching to Flash. You'd be surprised by what one can produce with it (House of Imaginary Friends and Harvey Birdman, just to name two good examples). I wouldn't be terribly surprised to see a movie animated primarily in Flash. With that in mind, an Oscar is definitely not out of the question.

Requiring an actual win seems like a lot. Would one win anything for a nomination?

Tom, I have 2 words for you, Adam Philips... that man, if he hasnt yet done it will win a major award one day.

Other than that, Minushi is another flash movie that raises the bar in terms of quality/time

Maybe one day... Maybe one day...
I could just throw up one hell of a short to kick some serious ass wherever it's submitted.

Newgrounds hellah inspires me.
It's been a part of me since I was a wee boy and it helped turn me to be who I am today.
Some crazy ass wanna-be animator. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Do animations have to be so effing detailed and stuff to be able to win?
I don't think so. If Don Hertzfeldt can win a Sundance Best Short Animation award, I CAN TAKE DOWN THE OSCARS.

Haha, seriously... That would be so bad-ass if some flash animator from Newgrounds took down the oscars. That would generate so many lulz
