If it ever did happen, you'd need a team of awesome artists like JohnnyUtah, TheSwain, MindChamber and all those guys working together on a big project. It would be awesome if a flash did win an oscar, but do the people with the skill have time or motivation?

Yes, 10K is motivation!

<sarcasm>
So guys, get your butts and dicks together and start sperming, I mean, get together and make something awesome!

On that note... $10,000 and a t-shirt!

A T-SHIRT!!!!!? I'm in!!!!

Haha, I might actually consider doing this cause I'm really crazy at the moment. Wait.... What if we win
Best Animated Full Length. Hell I'll just make two... One full length and one short. That way one can win best short, the other can win animated feature, and best picture.

Well, whoever is the winner, it gives the oppurtunity to recognize this site in the outside as home of best animators and movie makers. It'll mold the talent of an individual and a bonus of $ 10,000 for that.

anyone out here that makes a good plotted flash movie and a nice length could win one
i mean look at the one El linked us to, not that awesome of an animation but it had a nice concept.
not to disrespect or anything but many people on ng could had been nominated for an oscar. i mean many movies on ng are better than the link.

?how did that get nominated? did it had to be sponsored , submitted? or they just pick it out the internet and if they like it?

cause honestly we have some great stuff here on ng.

Seems like a lot of people doubt them selves and there fellow newgrounders. I've seen sum amazing animations in lesser software. flash is a pretty versatile piece of software. I believe with the right motivation, talent, and patients one could create a magnificent piece of work. the only problem I for see is the rules of nomination. newgrounds would have to set something up for this to happen. But don't get to down about the rules. there's always a way around them.

Talent is nothing more than a head start.

While I believe the Tank trophy is much cooler than an Oscar, I still think it would be a fun "challenge" for someone to make an Oscar-worthy Flash movie.

So I'm issuing the challenge: If anyone ever submits an animated short to NG that goes on to win an Oscar, NG will award them with a $10,000 prize! Depending on the future success of NG, I hope to raise that pot with each year that passes by. In the meantime, I hope the Tank trophy is enough to encourage people to step up their game!

Wow that is exactly what I was thinking. I think that there are some amazing Flashes out there that could win right now. And even if they don't, there definitely will be. I think it is just a matter of getting the flashes to the committee that picks the nominees. I don't think they really know what is out there.

wow... $10,000 prize... I mean... that's huge...
& amazing...
I think Adam Phillips could the one
but... also a big NG collab (and the prize is divided on the winners.. obviously) could be good

so...
c'mon ppl... let's work
XD

The solution is simple. Make a cartoon with very shoddy animation (calling it artistic and expressionistic), set to a very odd soundtrack, and make the central theme the plight of some war-torn, starving, diseased nation and the children and other innocents affected by their government. Make sure to blame the current American government as much as possible for the world's problems. Then make the main character a blind homosexual black female whose father hates her.
Also, simplify it to something odd involving a butterfly and the moon, making ridiculous metaphors of every object that appears.

Well come on, if Beowulf can be put into theaters then certainly someone on Newgrounds can win an Oscar with a Flash video! And I think I'm down for that whole lock up a bunch of artists plan, nothing morally wrong about a little starvation right?

Yes but this is supposed to be from Newgrounds. So let's combine the best of both worlds shall we? We'll have have a very shoddy animation set in a diseased nation but the blind homosexual female will have giant downward pointed eyebrows, shout things about the hotness of her tribe mates, and yell profanities. Then we'll throw the spotlight on the academy and have them claiming what the fuck, they didn't expect that and of course, that nobody told them there was genocide there. What will it be called? You guessed it...Darfur Awesome!

...then she comes out of the screen and shoots them.

I THINK WE HAVE A WIN YOO GUYS.

To anyone out there that thinks that this isn't possible... I'd like to say a few words.

The reason why Tom Fulp has done so much in his life is because he tries. Some people would think that's a way too lofty goal to set, but that's the problem. If you never try, or set goals for yourself, you'll never succeed. The concept of Newgrounds would seem like an impossibility to a lot of people, and they would just give up right away. They don't have drive.

Tom started this site from the ground up, has appeared on AOTS, countless conventions, has a part in the video gaming industry, and has Newgrounds to boot. All because he did something he loved to do, and was never afraid to take it to the next level.

It's dependent on being around like minded individuals who feel the same passions as you do.

There will be a flash that will win an Oscar someday. Hopefully from Newgrounds.
To those who think its impossible, it will never be you.

Ok, $10,000 to any Audio Portal folks who win an Oscar and mention NG on stage. :)

would it count to violently enter the stage, take control of the mic and scream "NEEEEWWWWGROOOOOOUUUNDSSSSS" innit? Or would one have to actually win the Oscar? :(
