I would say that within the next 25 years or so, a short will be made in some sort of online distributable format that will go on to win an Oscar.

i believe in order to be eligible for a nomination the short cannot be distributed online prior to the awards. I remember reading somewhere a post by Adam detailing why his YuYu short could not be eligible for Annecy due to its public release online. I could be mistaken and I nonetheless remain very optimistic for the future of Flash animation.

I think that Adam has the best shot, and maybe if he set something up so that he could give the flash to tom before the nominies were picked, as to avoid the requirement that it has have not been publicly relased.

What the fucking crap are you talking about? The audio portal is fucking sweet, especially when compared to what it used to be. Half the music on my computer is straight downloads from there and it kicks ass. You should probably think before you speak.

Well it is long but still instering to learn

the only reason fulp is giving the challenge with such a high reward is because he knows it's impossible... especially since most animations now are 3D, and flash isn't 3D. sorry to burst everyone's bubble. but i do agree that if anyone could, it would be adam phillips.

Making an Oscar-nominatable flash doesn't sound too hard.

After developing the hard parts (plot, scripting, storyboarding, etc.) you could film it all in real-time, then trace each frame individually and use Adobe Illustrator's mesh tool to photorealistically render the frame. Then it's just a matter of importing the frames into, and running them together in flash, plus adding voiceovers and soundtracks.

It would look great, but it would have to be 24 fps, and it would take a team of 100 people 216 days to make a 30-minute film.

So really, all you need is the manpower, necessary supplies, and the time.
