Who benefits?

This is just a simple question, but please do not regard it as a "+1" thread.

You are the ruler of a small island. In this island 20 people live with you. One of them is gravely ill and needs food and water. Would you give him the food and have everyone else suffer hunger (They won't die)? Or would you rather let him die? If you decide to kill him, would you just wait for him/her to die or would you give her a quick death?

What would you do and why?

As long as the others won't die, but will just have less to eat, I'd keep the man alive, obviously feeding him more until he is fit and well and so once he recovers the others will be able to eat and drink a little more, as the ill man would then not need so much, plus then it'd be one more person to help find more food/water to survive.

As the leader of the group, I'd have to get some input from the other people of the island. It really all depends on how long we're going to be stuck on this island. I'd say that if we're going to be stuck there for the long term, we can't just throw off some of our rations to just one person in order for them to live. That being said though, I say that we give this person the bare minimum they need for survival for a day or two. If we're not rescued then, let the person die.

Of course, this all varies depending on what the rest of the people have to say. You know damn well the person dying's going to be defended by their bitch of a wife calling us a bunch of savages and swearing eternal damnation on us.
