If Obama does win the nomination, as well as the election in November, how do you think other countries would react to a black president?

I doubt that any nation would care if a black man became president.

Common sense isn't so common any more.

Foreign diplomats and world leaders would do a quick research on African American culture, and they would then greet Mr. Obama with some kind of Crips handshake and "straight up, yo", "fo'real, homey", "where da bitches at man". Then they would try to freestyle. Obama would say "I BEG YOUR PARDON?" and it would be very awkward.

Seriously, nobody will care. Although maybe whatever corrupt Kenyan president is in charge at the time will think that Obama is his homie and will ask for a shitload of foreign aid and maybe invade a couple of neighbouring nations as well.

Actually from what I understand Foreign nations have been following our election pretty closely, the Democratic primaries have been getting front page stories since Iowa.

Newspapers the world over will showcase political cartoons depicting Obama as a bucktoothed watermelon eating black stereotype the second he does something that falls out of step with their perceived view of how we should run our country.

Besides that, not much else will happen.

.... what? To close to the truth for a few of you?

As harsh and abrasive as some of you on this board have been in dealing out abuse to President Bush for the way he has handled his presidency, I am really curious as to how you all will handle verbally abusing a black president.

I'm pretty sure that the type of political cartoon you depict will remain in small areas of this country segregated from the 'real world'. We have enough pc here to deal with that kind of stuff and have it never released. I'd be really surprised if the Washington Post or the New York Times sent out a cartoon like that and didn't immediately stop circulation and collapse as a company. Besides, you'd already have seen it.

Obama's been making mistakes, verbally, and I haven't seen something like that.

Personally I have no problem verbally abusing a black president. I have a problem verbally abusing someone doing one of the hardest jobs in the most powerful position in the world. That job alone is more than anyone on this board will most likely accomplish in their lifetime.

You know what? You're right, far be it from me to doubt how a little thing like journalistic integrity would prevent a news outlet from being racist towards black political figures.

Have you seen her? Thats no stereotype... Thats how she actually looks. Its called a caricature. The shoes being too big represent her... In a role where she can't fulfill it... Whats the problem?

IT. IS. OFFENSIVE.

Doesn't matter if it's true or not.

Infact...

"because it's true." CAN and WILL work on Obama.

And look at the other pictures...

Of course its offensive, it makes her look like an idiot. There are plenty of cartoons about BUSH a WHITE MAN, which make him look equally, if not more, stupid. If you're going to make a claim about other pictures, provide them.

They might put him under the microscope a little more since hed be the first president in America whos not a rich, ussually old, white guy, but other than that nothing major or important will happen.

depending on the country, i would say it would make the people feel different about america as being a White Christain Country.

I dont think any country would feel hate towards a black Pres.

Hillary however, will cause mass destruction.

Has to be said I agree with Humbucker740. I dont see that caricature of Rice as racist; its just how caricatures are. They exaggerate promenent features. Like Tony Blairs ones always had a HUGE grin. Prince Charles always has massive ears. Dubyah has tiny eyes.

The one of Rice is exaggerating personal features, not putting in the stereotypical black caricature features.

Oh I don't know, perhaps the fact that they dressed her up and designed her proportions to fit that of a small child from the 60's rights movement during that "caricature?" The fact that they made her look like a 300 pounds muscle mass in military fatigues in that other "caricature?"

Either you have a very broad definition of what defines a caricature, or you need your eyes checked. I'm guessing it's more the latter than anything.

Well, they'd obviously attack the United States. It's not like they're blowing way out of proportion the fact that he is black or anything, it's a perfectly reasonable assumption that nations will care if our president is black.

why do people care about a black president who cares on his looks, look at his Ideas what he wants see the big picture don't like him because he wants change see what he will really do, if you don't do that you might as well be screaming for Lenin (did I spell it right?) then you will see that he is a real piece of scum, and how he will ruin our founding fathers dream.

Whoa whoa whoa. I'm pretty sure the only thing he was implying was that no RACIST pictures would make it into any of the big papers (as in a "bucktoothed" obama consuming a watermelon), not that he wouldn't be caricatured.

Maybe you need YOUR eyes checked, because I see nothing racist on that page.

omg enough racism. Im white and one of my best friends is black. and i mean what the heck would the difference be if we had a black or a white president. Do you think that peurto rico would go "OMG BLACK PRESIDENT!!! ITS TIME FOR GENECIDE!!!!!". No! i dont think the color of the skin matters to anyone's ability to lead. A human being is a human being. And should only be judged on Actions, Beleif and company, in that order. And i dont think any other country could care less about the color of the presidents skin.

"A caricature is either a portrait that exaggerates or distorts the essence of a person or thing..."

The essence of one role is that she is standing in shoes she cant fill, where the 300 lb bruiser would look stupid, and the other is showing a satirisation saying that America presents itself as quite agressive to the world.

Different political points require different features from the caricature.
