If you would have read the topic, you would actually realize that this isn't some attempt at getting rid of a minority's history month just because I'm some racist that doesn't support any minorities to our country.

Black History month isn't racist at all you tards (no Offense) Its not segregating shit, Black History month is here to remind us of all those who struggled to bring equal rights. And after 400 years of slavery, Injustice, and brutality I think we deserve a month of memory . . . and the right to call yall honkies . . .

Then why isn't there a Jew History month they have suffered a lot more.

Why don't Jews got a history Month? . . . yea they suffered more, but thats not the fuckin' point of black history month. Its not "We suffered the most, Holiday Please!" We have that month because some great people did some great things to gain equal rights.

Yes, it is segregating. There is no mention about any WHITE people that helped to bring equal rights. Plus, in all the commercials I've seen, all the ads online, there were no mentions of anyone who did civil rights movements...only random black people who did random things.

up untill about 400 years ago we were practicly slaves, and if you learned anything about history you would know that.

You bring up a valid point. Some black people were slaves. However, some white people were slaves as well. It's all history.

I've always found the idea of dedicating an entire month to any race pretty stupid. First of all, it IS seperating blacks, it implies that the rest of the year doesn't appreciate blacks. Second of all, why do black people get this month at all, what acheivements is it celebrating? It's celebrating some people having higher melanin counts that other people? Yes, I realize some black people have done great things (So have people from every race), but some black people are utterly unremarkable, just normal people, so why have a month for these people?

I think somebody said something earlier in this thread about a civil rights month, why not have that, that celebrates people who have actually done something worthy of having a month dedicated to, regardless of race.

This is a problem with all affirmative action. The intentions are honorable, but it only serves to create a division between white and black people. Just the presence of a divide creates uneasiness between races; in a country that is predominantly white, black people are put at a disadvantage.

I know it's cliche to invoke Martin Luther King Jr., but this is relevant: His dream was of a future where your race didn't matter. Today, people hold up their race as a badge of pride. That's not equality - even if you're saying something positive about a race you're buying into the fact that there is a fundamental difference between races. For his dream to be achieved, we have to cut out this separation of culture in our society.

It's an interesting topic to discuss. I think there comes a point in any inequality movement that the initial steps taken can actually hinder progress (I don't think black history month hinders progress..will explain in a few). As has been pointed out in many different ways thus far there comes a point where you actually have to be "equal." We're not there yet based on any number of factors, salary for equal level jobs, press treatment (for example how often do you here of a black girl that gets snatched during spring break), etc...

However Black History month in particular is a little different. Granted I took a history class so mayb it has changed (enlighten me if it has but I doubt it has) I could open my "American History" book and count the number of blacks mentioned on one hand (well the ones that don't have to do with abolition) and that is the point of Black history month not to celebrate blacks in general but to acknowledge the contributions any number made through the years that aren't recognized as "official" American history. As for why other cultures don't get a month...well...they haven't gotten to that point yet however Hispanics have been far more vocal about the lack of recognition they have gotten. Native Americans (you know the ones that were in fact here first) have fought for years (there are sadly just too few of them left to have an impact)

Anyway...that's why there is still a black history month.

I don't like-and i'm not being racist- how black history month talks about black people's troubles. As if no other nationality had troubles. Even white christians, the most populius people on earth, had their troubles back when it first started. The fact of the matter is, all religions, races, etc. have gone through persecution and will continue to experince it.

Hey pal, I got news for you. ALL PEOPLE EXPERINCE TROUBLES. ALL OF THEM. What he is saying is that all races/nationlities/religions are the same and we can't raise one race above the others.

Exactly. And on another note, the United Negro College Fund...or whatever that is...is excluding people only by race. Again showing racism on the other side of the fence, something that a white person would be sued for doing.

Well guys, I understand what your saying. And true, probably should have it to be fair.

However, through my years of school pre k all the way through college. I've learned mostly about WHITE figures. So it's like, why designate a month solely for them, when they practically get the whole year? So for 28/29 days out of a year, we hear more about black history. So what? You'll turn right around and hear about white history the 237/238 days out of the year.

Because ultimately genetic diversity is a good thing. Some mixing introduces hybrid vigor to a gene pool, but too much homogeneity makes populations more susceptible to pandemics,

Well, let's be honest with ourselves. Those black figures that you DID learn about, through school or otherwise, were famous historical figures, and I'm sure that everyone learned about them as well.

But, pertaining to US history-wouldn't it make sense to have less history on black people, seeing as they are...well...the minority? I mean, I don't want to come off as arrogant by saying that, but it's true. There's less history because there were fewer historical figures.

Most every person on the Black History Month posters and commercials seems to have done something, but if it wasn't encompassed in the "Black History Month" umbrella, like say...if it WAS a white person...we wouldn't have a second thought dismissing it as non-historical.
