Jazz/Funk Band 2008-02-18 12:59:20 Reply

Hi guys!

If anybody has listened to my music, you will have noticed that I play mostly jazz/funk music. On the audio portal I'm not really hearing a lot of jazz/funk music nor do I know a lot of such musicians on NG. So jazz/funk musicians of NG let's come together and start to jam!

Some people might be flaming me that I didn't post this in the Clubs & Crews forums, well... I don't think there are that many musicians on the C&C forums, yet probably they are on the audio forums

I'll imediately set up some rules:
- Anybody is allowed to set up a audio collab
- Covers are allowed, as long as you play everything (so no ripped vocals etc)
- Set dates for the parts for a collab
- I'm the headmaster, my word is law (if this becomes really big I'll appoint coleaders)

So come on guys, let's get started! This is the first thing we can do:
A nice song by Amy Winehouse or Herbie Hancock or another not too complicated song.
A (nice) song by ME

At least we'll need this instruments:
[X]Piano(Me)
[]Guitar
[](Contra)Bass
[]Drums
[]Brass(1 or 2 people at least)

We need as much brass as possible cause, that's cool.
If we have multiple guitars, basses and brass. It's ok.
Percussion would be cool too.

So guys. sign up!!

Not to be rude, but I want live recordings so no sampling. And if you would have read the first post you'ld see that I play the piano.

Sorry then take me out, i like to masterize and work with samples hence the sound is better to me, make live recordings through internet to make a band is gonna be tough because the audio is probably gonna have low quality, seriously. SAMPLES AIN'T GONNA KILL YOU (L) !

Here I am. RadioactiveRhino reporting! I'm a saxist, as you may know from my personal Sax playing thread, and am open to any jazz or funk. Written notation is appreciated though. I have a good amount of experience with Herbie Handcock, so PM me and let's get rolling!

So, who's recording first? Kinda hard to comp a solo you can't hear, eh? :P

Anyway, I'd love to hear Watermelon Man :) (I play piano, so I guess I'm out).

I think Watermelon Man is a good song to start of with =D
Do all brass guys know the main riff?
I need chords to improv so if anyone could be so kind to tell me the chords.
We will need a bassist and a guitarist....
Especially the bassist. So we're off, almost.

Are you counting sax as brass?
I tend to be literal, as sax isn't technically a brass or horn...

There's the piano part. The chord progression is a 16 bar blues in F;

F7-F7-F7-F7
Bb7-Bb7-F7-F7
C7-Bb7-C7-Bb7
C7-Bb7-F7-F7

Want me to do the brass (well, I don't know the real english word for it XD) part as well?

You said you still need a guitar player? I've been playing for about six and a half years now and I played in my high school's jazz band, so maybe you can use me or something.

Let's see what we'll have

FINALLY !!!
people interested in jazz ... i guess i haven't seen something like this for ages ...

so i play some jazz and funk from time to time
E Funk
Pat Methenystique or
Oleo
are just few examples of what i post here on this direction ...

i'm a trumpet player and i guess i can record a solo on something
guess is good for begining to start with a simple easy jazz standard
