It is hard to recognize in babies because they are still developing. Doctors hesitate to do the procedure unless it is very obviously shortened. Also, they will not do it, as a baby or an adult, unless you have trouble speaking or eating certain foods. Apparently I am one of the few who had a short frenulum but didn't have trouble doing anything.
