Its kind of mindblowing if youre just doing this on the fly.
for the first time in my life I can be a douche bag and claim I am using no references haha.
Actually thats a lie, everything is referenced. While im not referencing any specifc robot, Mindchamber is an amalgamation of every robot that ever scared, or inspired me when I was younger
though I do a quick sketch of each part, its mostly to remind myself of the details I want to add later. in fact I sketched the chest after I already started molding it in clay. the only thing I can say is my limited knowledge of anatomy and some luck has gotten me this far.
it probably does help I've drawn this mindchamber robot in my mind a million times over.
and he's slowing changing AGAIN because of this lil exercise.
and this figure should be about 14 to 15inches when done.
How are you going to colour this bad boy when its done?

a black primer, then dabbed on blue for the parts that get it,
then dry brush it with gunmetal.
basically the same way I did with the munny.
Thanks for the Sculpting site link =P
On the `Spine` there is a lot of ball joints in between each clay spine part - will these make the back able to bend and curve forwards?
This is looking awesome! I can't wait to see the end product!

thanks.
minor update. the chest is connected now, still needs details. also thanks to the person that pointed it it was too high, they were right, the joints inbetween the spine added to much height so I reduced it to 2
Size reference to unicorn.. I bought him used for 10 bucks for the hands. lol
did you tell the person that you were going to take it apart?
Evil spelled backwards is Live and we all want to do that now don't we.
Deny the big lie, don't beLIEve and don't conform.

judging by the stench of smoke and beer that emanated from the box he came in, I have a hunch the seller doesn't care.
once you get your mindchamber done you should bust up the unicron pretty good and take a pic of your mindchamber rummaging through him for parts.

A Mindchamber claymation, awesome!
You will bow to me!

So I was gonna spend alittle time working on the chest or, one of the arms.
But said screw it, carving away at the chest gets shavings all up in my nose and gives me a headache.
as for the arm, I just wasn't in the mood to mess with that just yet and wanted to do something with no moving parts.
so I decided to finally try doing the head using that superfirm scupltey and man I love it!
at first it feels like the regular stuff, but onces you starts packin it in get holds its shape really well, and once you starts using carving tools it just peels away like butter, its almost feels like moonsand stuff,
its still ruff, but man usually I have to carve cooked clay to get to this point. I was able to cut into this stuff and have it cooked and mounted within an hour.
Still crazy ruff but Im feeling it so far,
How are you cooking these? You own a kiln? Are you just like tossing them into a microwave and hitting "thaw"?

it sez dont mic on the box >:c
throwing them in a conventional oven, covered in aluminum foil, baked at 275 for 15 to 30 minutes.

Kinda reminds me of a robo-Spartan thus far.
Well, the head looks like one of those helmets.

dude that is looking totally rad
"This! Is! CYBERSPARTAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
But I know you will add more detail to the head xD
BTW if you breathe in too much clay dust, it could kill you. Your supposed to carve when its leather hard, not bone dry. Unless you'd like to die.
Looking very badass man. Goodjob!
Its time to play games and jerk off. And Im all out of quarters.

The plan was to NOT tell him.
Very impressive so far... It's always great to watch other people's sculptures come together.
Although personally, I usually prefer to do blindingly small sculptures... Mostly due to space restrictions and financial limitations.
Anyway, this is looking great at the moment... Once you've had a chance to sand the shapes smooth and clean up the sculpting work (getting rid of toolmarks etc) it'll look fantastic.
So, are you going to paint the finished model when you're done? Or are you going to stick with the "au naturalle" look?
Just imagine I wrote something witty and funny here....
Oh, and check out my artwork: http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic /802110

that sounds incredibly hard, you should start a thread with your stuff I would love to see it.

I'm hoping so.. some told me I need to use something called "sanding blocks" so Imma look into it

I'm pretty sure that that just refers to air-drying clay.

as long as the parts are not connected to each other, all that ever happens is that they get soft..
they harden back up once it hits the air.

Looks really good so far I'm itching to see it done it looks neat-o.
It would be cool if you were more of an electrician and you crammed little led lights in the eye slots. Anywho its coming together well... its good that someone is making use of the NG office kiln. Well other than Wadolf.
None
Looking awesome, pretty good skills you have.
