these guys are beyond awesome. orginally I was gonna save up and ask them to do the model for me.

but I decided that even if mine comes out lopsided I would be prouder if I made it myself first, or at least try too.

but yeah, those dudes are a total inspiration.

So would this be considered an "action-figure" or just a "model with some articulation"?

I'd love to see an action figure of your character. In your blue prints, how many points of articulation are you planning for? Would they only be jointed, like just having an arm go up and down, or would you have like a base setup...? I mean, for example, would your model be able to twist left or right from the hips?

Most advanced action figures have about 18 points of articulation I believe. You going to go all out or just start with some basic points of articulation (arms, legs, head)?

Mindchamber, since you've got a fetish with robots, have you ever played with Lego or Knex or something?

Doing the time warp will make you look cool.

And just another question. Since you're going to be putting lights inside of the model (from the way it looks), will you make your figure have access to those lights in case they go out or somethin' goes wrong? T_T

Im looking at two options.

getting ball joints from

here

or getting a deluxe bionicle kit and taking the joints from there.

yah I plan to keep the head and chest hollow by baking it with an alumin foiled middle, then I can add a hinge to open and close it for the battery and stuff.

the hands will have a 2 points each finger as well as the neck and torso will have like 3 each, so about. 20.. it would have alot of points but I would still consider it a model because the clay can chip after its hardened, and wouldn't be durable like a real action figure.

I've always wondered how you came up with the MindChamber bot design. Was it a slow, intentional process with lots of drafts and redesigns, or did you throw it together in few tries with a basic idea?

It looks a little to complicated to have the final design from the initial idea =O

Anyways, looking alright so far, I'll keep an eye on this thread, looks like a fun one.

that's amazing! whenever i make clay things they turn out severely disfigured and mutated.

did you, say, cut the clay with a knife, or sculpt it by hand, because either way, it's totally awesome!

keep it up!

his design grows and changes lil by little as I try to realiticly make his parts believable in reality.
its creepy how he keeps evolving.
The basic design of MC came from an episode of beastwars called "transmutate" look up that robot and you will see the influence. Since then alot of his workings has changed as well his facial design, which is meant to reflect Egyptian mythology, as well as his weapons , etc. he also runs on a very special time of free energy source. all this goofy mumbo jumbo will be shown once I start the toons which hopefully will be this winter.

It looks a little to complicated to have the final design from the initial idea =O

thats why Im giving myself till summer to finish :-p aside from some wobbly shapes his foot alone looks on point.. if I take my time its definitely possible.

Anyways, looking alright so far, I'll keep an eye on this thread, looks like a fun one.

I got my clay, so I should have the thigh piece done by tomorrow night.

Haha, cool!

You should make an art thread with the evolution of MindChamber. I've always loved seeing peoples work grow and evolve into greater things.

And 20 points of articulation is fuckin fantastic! Can't wait to see some updated ^_^

Don't let it get in the way of your submission for Pico Day too much ;)

Are you going to make molds of all of the separate parts you are creating? I highly recommend it, you never know what may happen to the original. You can make silicon molds for fairly cheap, and fill them with resin.
FAIRLY cheap...
ALSO, once you complete your figure, you could make a mold of the entire body, create a wire armature and surround it with foam latex. THAT'D be sweet, because then you could do some stop-animation or something. Forgive me for getting overly-excited, but this kind of stuff is what I do.

ya and after you make a mold you can play with stuff like materials (the jiggly, blasting jelly mindchamber bot...thatd be kickass...or steel) then you could make dif experimental colour schemes
