This is why I don't watch CNN
BBC World is better
I'm sure you've heard of the "progress" Iraqi Congress is making. They even made a new fucking flag. Of course, CNN and my political science professor is calling it a "sign of progress" and a sign that the Iraqis "were able to come together and get it done."
This is why the Flag was created: There's a Pan Arabic conference going down in Northern Iraq this month, and the Kurds were refusing to fly the flag with the stars on it, because it reminds them of the Saddam era. But other Arab leaders wouldn't show up if only the Kurdish flag is flying. So the new flag is a compromise just to get the various Iraqi factions to show up at a conference.
Hallelujah! Praise Allah! There is finally Peace in the Middle East!
Five years of occupation and that's political progress? ...
But it's no surprise that our administration is making a big deal out of a flag. America is obsessed with flags.
The U.S. looks up to its symbols too much. George Washington said the white stripes represented liberty. Consider how your liberty has been stripped away by Bush, and even you might be tempted to burn a flag in protest, or at least just the white parts.
That's one reason why I voted for Barack Obama last week. He was one of the first politicians to remove his stupid flag pin, which he said had become "a substitute for true patriotism." That was around the time he was boldly speaking out against the Iraq War, even though it was unpopular to do so.
Flag issues in Iraq, like flag issues in the U.S., are mostly distractions. While the Iraqis have been squabbling over their temporary flag, suicide bombings have killed or wounded more than 200 people already this year.
And last week, U.S. troops, allegedly under fire, burst into a house in Tikrit and killed an unarmed farmer and his family. One of two little girls wounded during the attack died in the hospital. The military says it regrets the death and injury of the civilians.
Earlier in the same week, the U.S. killed nine civilians, including a child, in a bombing raid. The military says it regrets that, too.
Might as well hang the corpse of one of the dead children up the flagpole at the entrance to the Green Zone for all the hearts and minds a new fucking flag is going to win over.
Fuck the Flag and Fuck the War.

Wait do you have any sources for any of your audacious claims?

Here is the new one:
It's nothing more than a cosmetic change. They removed the stars and I don't see how is it going to improve the situation in Iraq.

As an off topic side note:
Why do I have to provide sources(which I did), when newspapers and TV stations do not? Why do I have to be held to a higher standard? I read the AP rules and it doesn't say anywhere to state your sources!

Yeah, I suppose the reasons why we are REQUIRED to fold it a certain way, unfold it a certain way, not let it touch the ground ect ect.. are SO horrible.
Flag burners simpley need to be turned into a crowed of people burning.

That flag is just a terrible idea.first of all it resembles the Israeli flag,(actually it raised protests by Iraqis when they noticed the resemblance), the designation of a new flag for Iraq is completely absurd and wrong, the US invaded for another reason not this. They cant give the country an entire make over this way.
I find its insulting to Iraqis and their history.

They also, you know, passed a budget bill, and amnesty bill and provincial powers bills.
Not that those, you know, are a big deal.

They are not a big deal. Do you really think "progress" was achieved by a group of people that can't even meet and discuss issues because of a flag?
The US needs to get the fuck out.

Are you seriously kidding, maybe my sarcasm wasn't detected.
Those decesions were a major deal.
The budget of where thier money will be going, the power that the provenical government will be wielding, amnestly for insurgents in jail.
These are all big deals that are seen by the people with foresight to understand them

Oh yeah, THAT, and the fact that;
- it would be the only flag in the entire region WITHOUT RED, BLACK or GREEN (except Israel)
- if the light yellow faded (as only light yellow can) then it would be only flag in the region appearing exclusively WHITE and BLUE (except Israel again of-course)
- in the hot midday Sun (you know, they have a lotta Sun in Iraq!) you wouldn't see the light yellow half the time anyway.
- it has NOT JUST BLUE, BUT EXACTLY TWO BLUE STRIPES, very much like Israel has EXACTLY TWO BLUE STRIPES.
- hanging dishevelled from a flag pole, you'd pretty much only see the WHITE with TWO BLUE STRIPES anyway.
- it has a FADED Cresent, which, if it had faded any more, you could pretty much gaffiti in a Star, and you'd have a passable fake Israeli flag to burn.
- and even if you did get caught burning it, you could make a strong claim that you were short-sighted/drunk/sun-blinded, and actually thought it WAS an Israeli flag!
..other than that, it was pretty fucken gay, and you gotta wonder what the American (coalition) was thinking at the time..
BRING ON the insurgency no doubt.
