I hate how suicide is frowned upon as a cause of death. This whole "suicide is selfish" bullshit makes me mad, because people don't understand why the person did it. They can't get into their minds, their feelings, etc.
Someone who kills themselves should be given the same respect as someone who dies naturally. I used to think suicide was selfish until someone, who was really close to a best friend of mine, killed herself. I didn't know her personally but she went to my school, and there were literally no announcements of it from teachers and shit. The only people who put up memorials for her were her close friends... and I wouldnt've known she had killed herself had these posters and things not been up.
Instantly rumors started spreading about her boyfriend dumping her (a close friend of my friend), resulting in her suicide. None of this was true, of course, and it was probably the last thing on my friends' mind. All they cared about was the fact that their friend was dead, and at no point did they ever blame her death as being selfish.
The worst part was that a year before, some girl died from leaving her oven on by accident. Memorials were all around the school, it was announced publicy, and she was even on the local news.
Maybe suicide isn't a solution for some people, but for others it seems like the only way out. Living for the sole sake of others is no way of living, imo, and if you're not happy with your life you have every right to end it. All I wish is that people who kill themselves are given the same respect as others who die, because in the end it's the same outcome.
