I don't have to tell you things are bad. Everybody knows things are bad.

It's a depression. Everybody's out of work or scared of losing their job. The dollar buys a nickel's work, banks are going bust, shopkeepers keep a gun under the counter. Punks are running wild in the street and there's nobody anywhere who seems to know what to do, and there's no end to it.

We know the air is unfit to breathe and our food is unfit to eat, and we sit watching our TV's while some local newscaster tells us that today we had fifteen homicides and sixty-three violent crimes, as if that's the way it's supposed to be. We know things are bad - worse than bad.

They're crazy. It's like everything everywhere is going crazy, so we don't go out anymore. We sit in the house, and slowly the world we are living in is getting smaller, and all we say is, 'Please, at least leave us alone in our living rooms. Let me have my toaster and my TV and my steel-belted radials and I won't say anything. Just leave us alone.'

Well, I'm not gonna leave you alone. I want you to get mad! I don't want you to protest. I don't want you to riot - I don't want you to write to your congressman because I wouldn't know what to tell you to write. I don't know what to do about the depression and the inflation and the Russians and the crime in the street. All I know is that first you've got to get mad.

I'm gonna jump the bandwagon here and agree wholeheartedly with AshfordPride. Yeah, I know, I'm an '06 user. Yeah, I know, I wasn't around in the "NG golden age", but fuck it. At least I was borderline, so I at least had a taste of what Newgrounds used to be, and I miss it. What pisses me off the most is this three day ban shit for using 4chan memes. Sure, they've been overused, but what the hell? In moderation, they're kinda refreshing.

I come to Newgrounds to get relief from the real world where there is no portal or forum, not to be bitched at by tyrannical mods with overzealous policies that aren't even part of the BBS rules. They're trying to do away with the low-brow humor that makes the Internet what it is. Without that, where would we be? With that kind of dry environment, even the portal might be affected; low-brow flash movies that rely on dialog or raw funniness more than high-quality animation may get blammed. There would be no Numa-Numa, no Beebo, etc.

So I leave my fellow Newgrounders with this question: If these policies continue, what will happen to us?

Also, I'm curious, is the typo in the topic title a typo or intentional? It's comical seeing a misspelled title for a serious thread ( as semi-serious as it may be ), especially when the word is problem, and the picture is smiling, so suddenyl the seriousness is decreased. ROFL. The problem here is that it's often pretty hard to tell the difference. I mean, take most of your threads for instance. ...Completely agree. Although I haven't been on the BBS for long, it is a far cry from other forums I usually browse (Kongregate, etc.), which are a bit more lax. Plus, some of rules are BS. I can be banned for saying "use Google"? In the first few days of using this forum, I was banned for "posting in a spam thread". Come on, I didn't know I could be banned for that! Cut me some slack here.

So, just because you're a 'reg' despite almost everyone is who comes here on a regular basis, at least once a day, but doesn't post. You think you deserve to be banned less, just because you visit or post more? I think not, that would be incredibly unfair and pretty much everyone with any thought for other people, regardless if they know them well or hate them, will most likely agree!

Get rid of stats on the forum, please. I can tell that a majority of the users here are trying to gets stats or reputation, or, God forbid, set out to become a mod. All this causes is +1 posting and new users acting like idiots because they feel the need to act tough. Leave stats in the userpage.

I agree, but it should still have the level/aura & basic profile thing on the left of posts, if that is what you mean, but I don't think it should show post count. Post counts doesn't or shouldn't allow your semi-resistance to bans or that.

You should just accept it, you can't change people over the internet and mods banning people just because they don't like their attitude would be an abuse of power. They have to take a neutral viewpoint and take everyone's views into consideration, before placing a ban on a user, or locking a thread.

Fun isn't happening quite a bit, there are a few trolls, not many, but the ones that are there are just fucking massively annoying. Intelligent discussion happens sometimes, but the majority of the time, it is pretty full of pointless threads and stuff

I agree. Even though it is rare, there are some quite frankly stupid bans I hear about in people's news posts (and they are real). You know, week-long bans because X is ACTUALLY better than Y? I think the BBS is becoming too mainstream.

However, I believe you are partially contradicting yourself here. When you say "less bans to regulars" and at the same time "people shouldn't get away with mediocre threads", then surely the people who made these threads would be banned. Also, I think fewer bans in general, rather than just fewer bans to regs (unless the regs are getting all the shit from mods). Finally, exactly who is a regular? '02 sign up? '03? '07???

I do still believe, however, that you make a very good point. the BBS is becoming less and less fun by the minute.
