Haha, That sounds a little nerve racking... So who ultimately decides the top 5? The dude who started the contest? or do these argumentative discussions you speak of have any effect?

Yep. I too hope it's being judged by pox and the good people at new grounds. I still would be interested to see everyone's top 5s. I would be more interested if my submission was in them.

I think I lost anyway. I got focused on making this grand scifi image, and made myself follow rediculous rules which hurt my chances. If I had just made one strong foreground image with a little going on in the back. If I had used RGB colors. And if I had made the image a reasonable size.

Also had I not sucked so much cock. Sperm is hard on the eyes. I think it's cause the sperm think your eye is an egg and try to penetrate it.

Anyway. Anyone else want to give a bullshit excuse/statement about why theirs sucked in order to draw out some consoling compliments?

Indeed, 3 pages with quality entries rather than 19 pages littered with MS Paint crap.
This contest was a lot of fun! I feel l've improved my skills on the making of it, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Anyway, here's my faves. I'm not saying that the ones on the Best Art row don't have a nice concept. In fact Mongoid and DannyEsLoco have two of the best concepts along with great art!

I think Renaneaneeneness...'s submission is awsome but I think he should remove the google'd background and just keep it to what he drew which more than makes up for no background.

I think from now on im going to draw on a larger scale then shrink it down becuase Its hard drawing on 700x560 like an idiot lol

I hate to be a bitch, but I'd love if some of you artist fellas could take the time and watch this movie I just submited. I was working on it at the same I was working on the Heavy Metal projects, so they're kinda connected, heheh.

In my defense my cover is not just a filtered photoshoped image. i think what throws it off was the fact that i pasted a bearskin rug that was posterized under my female. i did spend 5 to 10 hours painting that female, even though it doesn't look like it. the only other filter on my image is the render cloud in the heavy metal logo.

i have never digital painted before. this was my first attempt to do so. i tried to follow pox's tutorial but it seemed a bit vague. if you enlarge my cover you can still see where there are some outlines left in the image because i didnt know how to make a contrast between some of the body parts to make it look like it would have if i had just traditionally drawn the image.

i am sorry that my digital skills are not as up to par as the rest of yours but at least i can say i tried, even though it appears that i have failed miserably. my cover does stand out horribly compared to the rest of them, but i never expected to even get an honorable mention to begin with, al i wanted to do was to see if i could paint in photoshop.

What throws it off is the bear skin thing, its totally photoshopped, Ive been using photoshop for like 6 or 7 years now, so photograph wise im an expert, but when it comes to physically drawing shit in it gets hard, the trick is to layer every single thing you do. Sketch and outline, colour it in with another layer, Ive tried different ways of doing things but ive found that if you draw over your girl in greyscale, like shadows and lighter areas and blur it out and use a filter you can make it look more like natural shadowing.

My pic before I fucked it up and flattened it was at about 72 Layers, the tank, sand, buildings second row of buildings, sky, logo, second logo filter, hair, eyes, skin, outline, blending, textures, light effects, brick wall, bridge, bricks on ground, clothes, camel toe, second attempt at camel toe, third attempt at camel toe (Im not very good at drawing camel toe) more hair, tights, beauty spots, goggles, belt, belt attachment, angry logo, 4th attempt at camel toe, and some other stuff I cant remember

Haha. I'm glad you were only joking. But for those who actually think like that:

Tracing and/or heavily referencing photographs doesn't mean someone is an artist. Most of the finest artists reference photographs, and even a person standing right in front of them - technically tracing from vision.

I'm willing to admit that if I hadn't traced a photograph that I had taken specifically for this, I might have had a different perspective in this discussion; as it stands, I don't remember there being anything in the rules stating there was to be no tracing. In fact, I think I saw mention of doing that exact thing, several times, as an option for creating your image...

However; I'm starting to wish I hadn't traced my main figure. There are some very dynamic figures happening. Very exciting! ^_^

I used sylvia saint for my reference, a mistake as I spent 20% of my time drawing and the rest fapping like a fricking rabid monkey hungry for peanuts

I said the same thing a couple of times in these forums...I figured it out though...They are just jealous...they think they are all experts at PS and art in general....the fact is that they are jealous and have no clue what good art is....I love when people copy, paste then draw shit all over your work and say this is how it should really look...most people worked hard on these and it shows there are some really cool images in for this contest...95% of the stuff in this so called art forum is crap...so I was really surprised...I guess I am here for the 5% that doesn't suck............what...hhuunn......where was I going...

Don't make claims about people tracing a work completely or say they just added some filters to the original photo unless you have the proof....

The main difference between referencing and tracing is that referencing from either a photo or a real model/object requires hand to eye coordination, while tracing requires a very steady hand and, if digital, a large resolution. The former takes years and years of training and practice, while the latter can be done in a few hours. Reference doesn't directly copy either.

Most artists do reference images or models in their artwork to maintain accuracy though (especially with unfamiliar subjects). Although doing that in real life with real objects is much harder than via a photograph, since a photograph already determines all the light and composition in a 2D frame.

However, I'm not denouncing tracing either; it just takes less skill so to speak...but a whole less time. XD So it's smart, in a way.

In the end, it all comes down to a matter of conscience. Each one has a limit. Right now I'm pretty sure I can't do a sakerfalcon, but I tried my best and I feel like I went beyong my former limit. I'm proud of it. Next time I'll try and do an even better piece.
Most people enter this contests because of prizes and glory, but in the end, as we never win, it's all about the chalenge!
