No there is not a difference, email servers might provide a few servers to host your email address. It's just used to split the size of email accounts.

My God, man, that's exactly why I only use my AOL/AIM address as a spam trap any more, and use other email services for real email. It's almost as if the folks at AOL go out of their way to make things way more difficult than they need to be.

Sucks you guys have been having a problem getting mail to AOL users, in that regard I feel for you guys.

But come on! Ever since Prodigy fell off the radar and Compuserve and AOL rose up, AOL was always called America Off Line and not without reason. I could never figure out how AOL managed to get so much revenue and become such a major ISP. But the reality is your average AOL user is an old person and they just don't expect anything better from the internet because they never had anything else to compare AOL with. Why do you think AOL can get away with their crappy Java Hijack of your browser with their "improved" browser? Because there users do not even know how to use their default browser. To illustrate how bad their users are: I did some tech suppt for FAFSA on the Web while in college. I would have to tell AOL users to connect to the net then open a new and seperate browser. Seven out of ten could not comprehend this concept. Even the highschool and college aged ones.

Those that go to AOL for the email and chat client are really no better off. There are other clients out there far more stable, and other free email systems that work 100% better which do not give you the designation of @aol.com so all your friends can laugh at you.

second Aol sucks It is really gay, slow and has all this auto pop up shit from their own comapny. Also it quits downloads and loading flash cartoons. But we are on a contract and have to pay a fee to quit

AOL was shit and a pain in the ass we had to hire a pro to "rip" the AOL programming off the PC hard drive, we had to pay the guy $250 to do it.

The E-mail I use is much better (not telling what it is because I like to keep my E-mail hidden).

btw, gmail works with msn as well.

AOL = spyware. that is why you connection is so slow when you use it.

well... i waited for validation, too. but i've had an gmail account before, so no problem.

and for everyone who was amazed that aol is still alive: not in germany ;) they closed, but i can still use my aol email-account. imap for free - so why not? :P

Well, I sent the email, but AOL sure does suck. Even Outlook Express is better.
