Im sick of seeing these shows that highlight how callous attackers can be. You must know the kind; grainy CCTV pictures that still dont disguise the violence behind attacks.

I know that all the hippies would be wailing about human rights and the like, but these criminals ont give a fuck about human rights.

In instances where violent offenders inflict serious wounds on innocents, like in muggings and assaults, what do you think of their punishment being restrained and their victim allowed to retaliate?

I suppose its the same principal behind capital punishment (ie an eye for an eye) but less extreme. Anyway, thoughts / opinions?

Be educated, carry a gun, and shoot the motherfuckers when they pull shit in your vicinity.

You've got the right, and if you don't choose to exercise it, you're cheating yourself.

Administration of punishment of any kind should always be carried out by a 3rd party, most always the state, not the victim.

As far as hacking off limbs of thieves, I'd be all for it, if the government wouldn't then be required to pay out funds to the maimed criminal for making him near worthless on the job market.

Move to America, it'll be nice here for awhile yet.

Spending 10 years in prison being someone's girlfriend is a good punishment. Everyone knows what goes on behind those prison walls, but that doesn't stop them, but the reason I don't see it as being effective as far as discouraging crime is because the humiliation you suffer from it is a private one.

So take humiliation out of private, and make it a public display.

I'm not advocating public rape, mind you, but instead I suggest we go back to something a little more primeval. Bring back the whipping post, or better yet, caning. Inhumane? Definitely, but being publicly humiliated will drive the point home for the convicted, and serve as an effective deterrent to others.

This, plus all the cameras and restrictions on free speech in the UK, are one good reason I'm glad I'm over here. Someone should tell your politicians that 1984 was not supposed to be an instruction manual.

No. You can get a shotgun but thats about it as far as I know. Air rifles are fine so long as you can prove you need one, but I cant see hunting much more than vermin with that.

I'm willing to agree with this. A victim is a criminal too if he commits a crime, like assault for example. I don't think there should be any right for that either.

As for punishment, I do believe prisons, and related institutions should be more harsh in factors in humiliation, like Proteas suggested. As a moderate left-winger, it's slightly surprising, but I've noticed a lenient prison system is just ineffective in the UK.

I don't believe we should go to extremes though. That just reminds me of Clockwork Orange.

I think it is illegal to go hunting with a rifle, but it is perfectly legal to use a shotgun to hunt.

Get rid of immigrants outside of Europe and you'll see a large decrease in crime.

If someone takes a life without cause or for unworthy cause (to rob or for sick pleasure or some sort.)
death should be a sentence.

However like most of you I think if someone takes a life for revenge or accidentally that should be taken in into consideration.

The question is about corporal punishment not capital. And not a rant on wether immigrants are causing crime.
