Considering the fact that the quality of life is gradually rising throughout the whole world, would it be right to propose overpopulation? Since we've already got China and India and their massive population, can't we propose that France and England will face the same fate sooner or later?
Taking into the consideration the massive Muslim immigration into Europe, and their tendency for having many offsprings, wouldn't overpopulation of Europe be an actual possibility in the nearest 100-200 years?
Having the lifespan bar drastically rising in Europe could also play a very major role in this, wouldn't it?

Ever thought that terrorism and mass-murder might have some purpose?
Song of the Firefly is on Steam Greenlight and Kickstarter. Give them a look and support the project!

Earth already is overpopulated. The question is, when will the population start sinking. Because there most definatly will be a territorial war in the future . . .

North America's rate of national increase is around 0.6. Europe's is actually not an increase at all; -0.1. Russia's is even lower at -0.6. Other developed nations like Japan (0.0), Australia (0.6), and New Zealand (0.7), show the same kind of theme. More developed, better quality of life, lower population increase.
I don't really think any of the melodramatic people that have posted here really know what they're talking about anyway. They just see big numbers and get all excited.

Probably not the moon, since it doesn't really have any natural resources. Mars... possibly if they can find water of sorts.

there were 1 billion people in 1800.... and nearly 7 billion now.

again, big numbers. What does that mean to you? Was the Earth crowded in the 1800's? No, far from it, and it's still not crowded, just two countries with giant populations are not even the largest countries geographically, you have small areas with clustered populations like Europe, Japan, India and China and people seem to think that we're shoulder to shoulder everywhere we go. You're including that contrast because it's shocking, not because it's relevant.
"many who do not view overpopulation as a serious problem fail to consider the sustainability of economic systems, the environmental degradation caused, and the ecological footprint of the existing population."
You obviously know more than I figured you did, since all you included in your first post was a really uninformative graph that did nothing but try and shock people. Unless you're just throwing that quote out without really understanding it. I'm no expert in terms of economics or environmental issues, but I was criticizing people who seem to think everyone on Earth is reproducing like rabbits and even when the quality of life for developing countries equals that of developed countries that they will still reproduce at the same rate.

Most indications are that the rate of population growth is going to slow down in the next 50 years which at least gives us a bit more time to get organized in figuring out what to do.

That's why diseases mutate and wars will always be present; to help control the population.
Also, we'll be on other planets by the time we need to worry about the world becoming too crowded. Let's face it; we still have plenty of space in Africa, Alaska, Russia, South America, Middle US, and Antarctica. I'll admit, many of those places aren't too attractive to live in, but when the room is needed, I'm sure some people will adjust.
And then, there's always underwater or underground.

Heh Rapture.
But to get back to what you were saying, we are currently going through the fastest technological advance change in the history of the world so by the time that overpopulation becomes a problem we'll have probably developed housing in Antarctica that keeps everyone warm and stuff in Africa that keeps everything at a temperate climate. I imagine that the human race will run into more pressing issues before overpopulation even becomes something to really worry about.

Overpopulation is not only measured in square footage.
Just because your backwater town doesn't have a skyscraper, doesn't mean it's not part of the problem.

First of all, yes the earth is overpopulated, it has already begun to show its effects, and yes their might be space left in our world, but the more trees we cut down the less oxygen is produced, the more oil and other hazordous gases that are realeased into the air, cut down the O-zone layer, the world doesnt have too much longer before we see a drastic change to the physical and chemical layout of our planet, not to mention we are running out of fossil fuels?? i mean we are doing nothing to change our habits and our behaviorol patterns, the world is growing with life at an alarming rate now due to the advanced medicine, i strongly feel a 3 world war is upon us, maybe not now, maybe not 10 years from now, but within the 21st century, yes. I do believe that it will come down to it, and after the dust settles there will be alot of casulties of war some countries may even be completely wiped out as technology continues to grow and become more and more advanced. The greatist human achievement ive seen of lately is the saltwater purifyer that turns saltwater into drinkable wholesome water, im not positive about the company but it was one of the larger ones that already has many updated products, i read about the product a few months back and it blew my mind. I know we are to become overpopulated and if something doesnt change we could see a whole new way of living by the 22nd century, i just hope that we can somehow survive everything that lays itself upon us and continue to keep humankind strong. If you read this i thank you for your time. Any questions PM me.
Mike.

You mean to say that once one person does it, no one else can? I disagree.
