As awesome as a Wacom/laptop combo would be, it's still quite beyond the horizon for now.
Prototypes have already been made
A laptop would need quite some parts to run Photoshop or Painter well - about 4GB of RAM, a powerful dual-core processor (or quad-core....although I haven't seen a laptop with quad processors), which in turn would need good cooling. Well, I'll assume that we won't need a good grapichs card because playing with your Wacom is only good for point-and-click adventure games and RTS's.
Were assuming such a thing is used solely for designing... no games.
If you use a standalone version of photoshop (or some other program) you wouldnt need an elaborate operating system. ram can be scaled down lots. there are already lots of quad-core laptops out there, so thats not really a novelty. Besides, Im running photohop on my dualcore laptop just fine... You get in trouble when you are working really big (ie. A1 size...) but then again this device would be intended for quick scetching, drawing out ideas, working on the train etc. so that shouldnt be that big a problem.
Cooling wont really be a problem; It wont need more cooling than a regular laptop. (granted, with the screen closing off the top of the laptop, it might need a bit more, but that shouldnt pose any problems)
Problem 1 - the battery would die very fast trying to run such monster computer. It's not much fun being always plugged in, but OK, we'll manage. Moving on...
True, as laptop batteries go they die fast, especially with a 21" screen... Thats why Id rather see a 15" 16:9 screen... that`d have half the area of a 21"...
When you consider we (most of us) are currently using 7" bamboos, which will fit four times in a 15" screen....
As of now, the Cinitq alone, without the stand, weighs approximately 8,5 kg. The computer we are constructing would most likely sit on the 3-4 kg line. So end result would be between 10 and 13 kg. 10-13 kg computer. That's some heavy shit to carry around with you.
Id think its more like 7/8 kg in total... Alot of stuff can be merged or skipped, 21" cintique is 10 kg, 15" would come to roughly 6 kg...
Its not shitlight, but if you put it in a nice backpack, it isnt that terrible.
But most of all....the Cintiq alone costs 2000 USD. A powerful laptop means adding somewhere between 1000 and 2000 USD. 3000 to 4000 dollars. Fuuuuucck....
Thats would indeed be the price range... Mind you it would be aimed at professionals...
